Frank Lampard in hot water with the FA after his post-match comments at Liverpool

Everton manager Frank Lampard is reportedly in hot water with the FA after his post-match comments at Liverpool on Sunday afternoon.

He has been contacted by the Football Association regarding what he said when left reeling over the Anthony Gordon penalty appeal.

Everton came away from Anfield without a point and the 2-0 defeat kept inside the Premier League relegation zone after Burnley had climbed over them thanks to a a 1-0 victory over Wolves earlier that afternoon.

The Toffees wasted the chances they had and their defensive tactics shown just how bad it’s got with concerns they could be one of the biggest sides to ever fall out of the Premier League with second tier football a strong reality.

They went into the game with weekend football tips having Everton at 9/4 to be relegated, and by full time, that changed to 5/6, with Burnley being favoured at staying up instead with the run-in looking better for the Clarets.

Anthony Gordon is often praised for his efforts during matches, and shown just how much trouble he can be when going down the left. The young winger twice saw penalty appeals turned down when falling inside the area.

Gordon was booked for simulation in the first instance, though the second incident involving Joel Matip was more controversial and had the Everton staff and subs on the touchline fuming.

Referee Stuart Attwell didn’t think there was enough contact to warrant a penalty and VAR Darren England concurred with Attwellā€™s on-field assessment.

After the game, Frank Lampard claimed that the decision may have been different if involving Mohamed Salah at the other end.

He also thinks Liverpoolā€™s influence while playing at Anfield may have affected the refereeā€™s judgement.

ā€œIf it is Mo Salah at the other end, you get a penalty,ā€ said Lampard (via the Daily Mail). ā€œI have played in teams in the top half of the league, you get them.ā€

In his interview with Sky Sports, Lampard said: ā€œIā€™m not sure how clear-cut it was but the referee was quick to whip out a yellow card (for Gordonā€™s first penalty appeal with Naby Keita).

ā€œWhen the stuff was going on in the middle of the pitch, you look back on that with VAR and thereā€™s some questionable things going on in that too.

ā€œMaybe thatā€™s to be expected when you come here [Anfiield].ā€

They state Lampard could face a charge and has been ā€˜asked to provide his observations on the matter.ā€™

Everton were so incensed by the perceived injustice that they reportedly contacted refereeā€™s body PGMOL in the fallout.

Their issue reportedly stemmed with the short shrift VAR Darren England gave the second incident with Matip. In their minds, the incident warranted a more detailed look than England gave it.

Evertonā€™s relationship with the PGMOL is acknowledged as being strained at present.

A dubious non-awarding of a penalty against Man City when Rodri handled inside the box also left Lampard seething in late-February.

Speaking to White and Jordan on talkSPORT, former Liverpool midfielder Danny Murphy said: ā€œPeople get reputations and heā€™s diving too much.

ā€œHeā€™s a great player by the way. I really like him, Anthony Gordon, heā€™s a super talent, but Iā€™ve watched Everton so much this season and he does dive a lot ā€“ and this is within the same game!

ā€œBecause heā€™s got that lovely way about him, heā€™s got great balance, he can go both ways and heā€™s got a low centre of gravity, he does get fouled a lot.

ā€œWeā€™ve talked about this with Jack Grealish and they do go over too easily, but the argument is why shouldnā€™t they? Because if they donā€™t, you donā€™t get the penalties or the free-kicks. You canā€™t win.

ā€œBut, would he have got that penalty if he hadnā€™t have gone down in the first-half? Maybe yes.

ā€œThe fact is, it was a pen,ā€ Murphy added.

ā€œAgain we talk about referees being able to take each incident in isolation, but thatā€™s just not the way the world works.ā€

Twitter users reacted on Frank Lampard being in hot water with the FA after his post-match comments at Liverpool…

@GretnaServices: Evidence doesn’t back this up. In fact, Everton usually get these soft penalties at Anfield where their striker initiates contact. Problem here for them was, they had the biggest diver in the league chancing his arm, and the ref was wise to it.

@speleeds1: Gordon deliberately puts his foot across Matip purely to instigate contact so it’s not a penalty. Having said that it would definitely be given at the other end and also to any of the other Big 6 clubs.

@AllAboutChelsFc: Just know if your playing against Liverpool the referee and VAR will always choose Liverpool side .

@D15Twisted: Well, that’s the biggest load of crap I have heard, Salah barely gets freekicks, never mind pens, if you disagree then show me the stats for Salah winning pens in the PL this year. Let talk about the diving Everton were doing throughout the match, gamesmanship was ridiculous.

@MetilQuokka: I hear Gordon’s been offered a position on the GB diving team if the football thing doesn’t pan out.

@M1keSanders: The agenda here lol – last season Van Dyke was taken out at the knee by Pickford (which ended his season) and LFC didnā€™t get a thing, yet the opposing fans didnā€™t cry anywhere as much as thisā€¦.

@gwithiandaze: Perhaps Lampard would like to review the behaviour of Richarlison, Gordon and Pickford and thank his lucky stars that they were all still on the pitch at the end of the game rather than getting the red cards they deserved #EvertonGoingDown

@likeitlmao: Heā€™s not wrong tbf

@Chrisstirland03: Like it or not that’s a fact

@i_am_odiggs: Support his stance. English FA, Refs, VAR are always biased

@craigpaul85: Maybe you’d have got it Frank if you hadn’t had resorted to constant and obvious bad sportsmanship decisions with diving and time wasting from the 1st minute. Why are you surprised you didn’t get anything when you resort to that?

@OswaldDick: Love Frank, and heā€™s right. Stars get the calls. Cheers

@JosephOT85: Hes right pens don’t get given against Liverpool to keep them in the hunt for the title

@JoshCBurke93: Bollocks. Theyā€™ve had more penalties at Anfield in this game since Klopp has managed them. Both times soft, Salah has never had a penalty won in this game.
