8) YEOVIL – FourFourTwo said in their verdict: “Manager Billy Rowley arrived in Somerset from Walton & Hersham of the Southern League midway through a frustrating campaign that, eventually, ended with Yeovil clear of relegation.
“He has since plucked Jos Barker, Mason Obeng and Johl Powell from his former club and also signed Zain Westbrooke, who was on loan at Scunthorpe for their promotion push. Sth”
7) FOREST GREEN – FourFourTwo said in their verdict: “Robbie Savage and his high-octane side ran out of gas after a bright start, finishing 7th despite – or because of – a constant stream of signings.
“The club needs stability. So, losing Tom Knowles on a free transfer to Barnet due to an administrative error in extending his contract was unfortunate.
“They have, however, landed highly-rated Heel Hempstead defender Kyle Ajayi and Scunthorpe’s impressive Oli Ewing, plus James Berry on loan from Wycombe. 7th”
6) SCUNTHORPE – FourFourTwo said in their verdict:“A strong first season back in the National League ended with Scunthorpe in the play-off semi-finals, where they fell to Rochdale.
“Coach Andy Butler has been dealt a blow with the departure of attacking maestro Callum Roberts to Notts County, but he has added promotion know-how in former Lincoln and York defender Callum Howe, as well as Boston’s impressive midfielder Jordan Richards. 6th”
5) BARROW – FourFourTwo said in their verdict: “After six years away, the Bluebirds are back in non-league following a wretched League Two campaign helmed by four different managers.
“Adam Murray – Valerien Ismael’s assistant at Barnsley, West Bromwich Albion and Besiktas – has been pinched from promoted Kidderminster to lead Barrow, and he has brought right-back George Walker with him. Hoping to add goals is Alex Reid, Hartlepool’s top scorer last term. 5th”
4) SOUTHEND – FourFourTwo said in their verdict: “Kieron Dyer isn’t hiding his promotion ambition in his first go as a no.1. The former England international, who coached under Paul Cook, replaced Shrimpers legend Kevin Maher – axed just 48 hours after winning the FA Trophy.
“While star wing-back Gus Scott-Morriss headed a long list of exits, Dyer has added former title winners Darren Oldaker – a regular in back-to-back League Two promotion bids with Chesterfield and Swindon – and Anthony Hartigan. 4th”
3) HARTLEPOOL – FourFourTwo said in their verdict: “Pools have entered the promotion chat! Raj Singh’s controversial reign ended in January when American businessman London Smith completed his takeover.
“Lee Clark is in, after his caretaker stint at Rotherham, and striker Jordan Hugill comes in tow. Also joining a new-look frontline are Jack Nolan, who hit 19 goals for relegated Morecambe, and 21-year-old Chris Popov, who scored seven alongside him. 3rd.”
2) BOREHAM WOOD – FourFourTwo said in their verdict: “Luke Garrard’s side were seconds away from the EFL, only for Rochdale to find a 97th-minute equaliser in the play-off final and then win it on penalties.
“Garrard signed a new three-year deal the next day, determined to go one better in 2026-27. Wood say they plan to keep hold of their stars, including playmaker Zak Brunt and electric winger Abdul Abdulmalik. That won’t be easy, but failure would at least be lucrative. 2nd”
1) CARLISLE – FourFourTwo said in their verdict: “Despite ending up with 95 points, Carlisle were never truly in last season’s title race, and were turned over in the play-offs by Boreham Wood.
“Mark Hughes has been replaced by ex-Crawley boss Rob Elliot, who galvanised Gateshead from relegation certainties to comfortable survivors. Elliot knows the remit here is promotion. 1st”
