Four surprise upsets in the FA Trophy Third Round proper

There were four surprise upsets in the FA Trophy Third Round proper this weekend with still four more matches to be played another day.

Winners at this stage of the competition will receive 4,500 whilst the losers also bring in some cash, getting a total of Β£1,250.

Stamford were awarded a bye due to the withdrawal of Macclesfield Town. 25 ties were played on Saturday, with two postponed.

Time to check out those four surprise upsets caused in the FA Trophy Third Round proper and first up it’s Leamington of the National League North.

They played out a goalless draw with Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney’s Wrexham before beating them 6-5 when it came to spot kicks.

Another National League side to be dumped out is Barnet, with the newly appointed Tim Flowers, after losing to league below Dorking Wanderers.

It would be the National League South side who took the lead after a cross was headed against the crossbar by Jason Prior, before James McShane scored the follow-up. Shortly after, the ball struck the post after a dangerous ball flashed across our six-yard box.

15 minutes later, Ben Fox hit home from the edge of the box with a great finish to level the scoreline, however Dorking went back in front just after, a powering header from Jason Prior putting the hosts back in front.

With minutes remaining on the clock, Luke Moore slotted the ball home from the penalty spot to secure Dorking’s place in the Fourth Round.

Another team to cause an upset was Isthmian League club Hornchurch, knocking out National League South side Dulwich Hamlet away from home.

Sanchez Ming scored from the spot to put Hamlet 1-0 up on the 15th minute mark, however Hornchurch were then handed a penalty after Ruff fouled, Sam Higgins then stepped up and found the net. 1-1 after 23 minutes.

Four minutes remaining of the 90, Hornchurch then grabbed a winner, thanks to Charlie Ruff.

And lastly for Saturday, Dartford of the National League South were dumped out by Isthmian League side Haringey Borough.

The brilliantly named Bobson Bawling became the hero, putting his side 1-0 up on the 90th minute to secure a surprise victory and place in the Fourth Round.
