Four fans arrested at Coventry v Norwich amid fighting, girl struck by coin, and trouble on bus

Four fans were arrested at Coventry v Norwich amid fighting, a young girl being struck by a coin, and there being trouble on a double decker bus.

Arrests have been made after tensions boiled over among some travelling fans, with some rather shocking details emerging.

Police investigations have begun into several incidents, with an 11 year old girl left with a cut on her head when a coin was thrown when Coventry fans celebrated Norwich scoring a decisive own goal in the 88th minute of the Championship fixture.

West Midlands Police said it was investigating the incident but that no arrests had been made.

@bobbydodo74 tweeted: “Thank you to the Norwich fan who threw the £1 coin and hit my 11 year old daughter in the head. Hope you’re all proud. Hope you were on camera and don’t want to watch your team again.

“Only takes one scumbag to spoil things.. All the #ncfc fans outside the ground seemed in good spirits. Mind you there was more than one scumbag as my daughter told me there was a Norwich fan blowing kisses at her as well were escorted out by the medical staff..

“Remains to be seen how it impacts her in terms of going to games I’m hopeful she’ll be ok but next time we won’t be sitting anywhere near away fans.. one person embarrassed your club not rest.

“She’s ok. Bit of glue on the forehead. It’s me that’s in bits can’t help thinking if it had hit her eye.. I did have ‘oh no’ moment when I realised we were so close to the away end. Normally me and son season tickets in family end. But wanted to take the girls too.

“There must be a Norwich fan that saw the person throw the coin, how about a seat number? It’s just dawned on me that my daughter will most likely have a scar for the rest of her life.. (not the biggest but nonetheless shouldn’t be scarred from watching a game of football)”

“Just hope they find the person that did it. As a family we might be done with football. How can I justify taking my children to games with the risk getting hit by coins, losing an eye call it what you like. Very disheartened here”

The girl’s father, Martin, said via BBC News: “My daughter remained sat down as we celebrated.

“My wife pulled my arm, I turned around and blood was running down my daughter’s face.

“In this day and age I’m surprised something like this would happen. I’m sickened.”

A Coventry City FC spokesperson said: “We condemn the actions of any supporter whose actions bring harm to others.

“While the Family Zone, which is now sold-out, is our recommended areas for families, there are no restrictions placed on fans who choose to sit in other available areas of the arena and should be able to do so safely.

“Block 4 and 5 were opened on Saturday morning for supporters to purchase in, due to there being very limited availability in other general admission areas for the game.”

Meanwhile, West Midlands Police add that four people, including a 14-year-old boy, had been arrested following disorder at Saturday’s match.

A list of offences included affray and a racially aggravated public order offence.

Sgt Lizzie Lewandowski, a football unit supervisor for West Midlands Police said: “We are in the early stages of our investigations and we would urge anyone who may have witnessed the incidents to please get in touch.”

@TheSimonGilbert wrote: “Not sure what was going on today, but there was a surprising amount of violence at the match. Norwich fans fighting each other at the end in the stands. Someone got headbutted in one of the toilets in front of kids. Then it all kicked off on a bus by Arena Park exit! #PUSB”

Twitter users reacted with four fans arrested at Coventry v Norwich amid fighting, a young girl struck by a coin, and trouble on a double decker bus…

@Largey24: I’m sorry to see this. That’s inexcusable. Norwich fans travel in large numbers, and you should find the vast majority of them are friendly and just there for a fun day out to support NCFC. I hope your daughter hasn’t been put off attending again. Best wishes for the season #ncfc

@PeteDudgeon1: Sorry to read this. Hope your daughter is ok and it hasn’t put her off going to the football. #pusb

@NickWoodrow01: As a #ncfc supporter I’m horrified to be reading this. I’m so sorry this has happened to your daughter and I hope everything can be done to find and punish the person who did this cowardly act. Shame on them 😞

@DanielDav2017: Kicked off in the car park as well

@TomUpto94934917: Thought I saw some Norwich fans fighting each other at the end of the game, not sure what happened but did notice them fighting

@JordanF_CCFC: Probably because a lot of them have powder. Up there nose and fuelled with alcohol 😂
