Former Whites player Vinnie Jones reacts to Leeds’ 2-1 loss against Wigan

Former footballer Vinnie Jones has taken to Twitter to give his reaction to Leeds United’s shocking 2-1 defeat against Wigan Athletic yesterday.

Gavin Massey’s double saw the Whites drop out of the automatic promotion places with three Championship games to go.

Leeds took the lead through Patrick Bamford after Pablo Hernandez had a penalty hit the post and out.

Despite bossing possession, having 36 attempts compared to the away side’s 8, it was Wigan – who were down to 10 men for over 70 minutes- that held on to move five points clear of the relegation zone.

Following the result, Vinnie Jones tried to offer some hope towards his former club’s supporters.

He tweeted: “This day 30 years ago leeds lost at home to barnsley 2-1 and still went up. just saying”

Jones somehow got the year and date wrong, only by six days as the game he was referring to was the 25th of April, but the scoreline is correct.

Back then, Leeds held on to top spot and picked up wins against Leicester City (2-1) and AFC Bournemouth (1-0).

Next up for both sides, Leeds travel down to Brentford on Easter Monday, while the Blades also make their way to Hull City.

After seeing Vinnie’s tweet, fans including those of the club’s promotion rivals, took to reply their thoughts to his post – find out what they had to say on the next page.
