Gutted to hear this sad news. John was my manager at Fareham Town. Decent bloke, good laugh and a decent manager

Terribly sad news. I met Jon for the first time recently through my work. Softly spoken and a real gentleman. Came alive when our conversation moved to football and you could feel the genuine passion he had for the game. Far too young. RIP Jon and condolences to the family.

That is no age to go. How very sad, he was a real grafter on the pitch.

Really sad news. He had a good couple of years with us in the mid 90s. His hard working, no nonsense style was always popular with the fans on the terraces. 55 really is no age. RIP Jon Gittens.
