Former Sky Sports commentator slams broadcaster for their coverage of Liverpool v Brentford

Former Sky Sports commentator Bryn Law slams the broadcaster for their coverage of Liverpool v Brentford on Sunday afternoon.

Arne Slot earned his first Premier League victory at Anfield with Luis Diaz and Mohamed Salah getting on the scoresheet.

This was televised live on Sky Sports, but it seems for Bryn, these days working for LUTV and the BBC, he wasn’t happy with what he was seeing, taking aim against Sky.

He tweeted: “Sky’s coverage of this Liverpool v Brentford game is basically LFCTV – ex players as co-comm & studio guest, LFC associated presenter. Could they not have at least found an ex-Brentford player as a 2nd studio guest? The pretence of broadcaster’s neutrality a thing of the past?

“They should let ‘the little club’ do their own red button coverage then they could go full ‘big club’ with impunity.”

Nearly 6,000 Twitter users have liked his tweet at the time of writing.

Brentford head coach Thomas Frank: “It was a game of two halves. First half, I thought we were very good and it was very even – it was a good match actually,” said Frank.

“We pressed well, we defended well and we limited Liverpool; they basically had nothing besides their goal, which came from our corner.

“We were this close to the first contact and then lost the 50/50 on the edge of the box – we have to deal with those situations better.

“Second half, we were still in it – we had the Nathan Collins chance from the corner, which shows we are a constant threat – but then they score and then it’s very difficult.

“We lost fair and square, but the first half was our best half of football here at Anfield.”

Keane Lewis-Potter: “It’s a tough one to take.

“We spoke about the need to stop their transitions, and the first goal was a transition from our corner.

“But we caused them a few problems, particularly during the first half on set-pieces. In the second half, Nathan [Collins] had a header that could have changed the game completely.

“The positives are there from the first half. We defended well and we did have chances.”

Liverpool boss Arne Slot to Sky Sports: “If I’m honest, I think most players are quite used to what we want. But then it has a lot to do with us doing not so many things different to what Jurgen did in the past.

“So there are only slight changes maybe but most of it is the same. So if we lose the ball, how aggressive we are, how hard we run back because they don’t want to concede.

“But some details are a bit different but it also has to do with the opponent you face. Ipswich and Brentford made it quite difficult for us but I’m not expecting them in the top six this season. So we have a lot to prove against the teams that can finish in the top six.

“Our defensive performance today was really good. The only two small chances, one of them was big, were out of a set-piece. We controlled the counter attacks, we controlled them in their build-up. Apart from that, we created many good chances in the second half.

“I think Liverpool fans saw these performances under Jurgen many, many, many times. But what I mean with control is when we concede the counter-attack, we see everyone sprinting back trying everything which they can not to concede. That’s what happened really well today, apart from one or two set-pieces.

“In the end, you could see Brentford didn’t have the legs to defend against us, that’s because of what we did in the first half.”

@kcb49: I always liked you Bryn, and you are not wrong. The problem is wider though. Sky Sports is a vehicle for peddling the top 6. MUFC have their ex players too. Frankly a tad nauseating all round. It won’t change any time soon though.

@BargeTours: Sky gave up “neutrality” years ago. Their intention is keep the fans of clubs with the most Sky subscribers happy. Balanced coverage isn’t in their financial interest.

@hornetman071162: Carragher on co-comms is the worst of it all. Neville never does United games with just Drury, he’s always got someone else there so why does Carragher get Liverpool games by himself?
