Former Rotherham, Tranmere, Oldham manager applies for Chesterfield manager’s job

Former Rotherham United, Tranmere Rovers, Oldham Athletic manager Ronnie Moore applies for Chesterfield manager’s job, it’s been reported.

The 66-year-old, who has managed more than 750 matches in his career between 1997 and 2016, has put his name forward as a replacement to the recently sacked John Sheridan.

He guided Rotherham to two promotions whilst also managing to save Oldham and Hartlepool from being relegated and reached the playoffs with Tranmere.

The last club he was in charge at was National League side Eastleigh in 2016, where he went unbeaten in his first 10 games in charge. He left after 21 games due to "personal circumstances". His win percentage at the Spitfires was 47.62.

Moore is said to have previously applied for the job as Spireites boss in the past but ended up being unsuccessful.

Sheridan guided Chesterfield to third from bottom of the National League, picking up 27 points from 29 games, leaving them five points from safety.

Former Spireites academy manager John Pemberton, who was last at Kidderminster, returns to his former club as caretaker manager for Saturday’s match against Sutton United, who thrashed Woking 6-2 on New Years Day.
