Former Premier League manager Danny Wilson made a return to the dugout for the first time since 2017 on Saturday, as he took temporary charge of Buxton when they hosted Mickleover Sports.
Paul Phillips departed from the club, leaving the Bucks without a manager, so turned to the former Barnsley, Sheffield Wednesday, Sheffield United and Chesterfield to take charge.

Wilson, who was recently linked with taking over at Grimsby Town, was a special guest at the club where he took two sessions over the summer and also gave advice to the academy team.

Despite his presence at the game on Saturday, he couldn’t pick up a win for Buxton as they were beaten 1-0 at home to Mickleover Sports, in front of 335 fans.
Former Wycombe, Preston, Burton, Coventry and Wrexham forward Stuart Beavon scored the only goal of the game which came after eight minutes.
His very short stint has left Buxton 20th in the NPL Premier Division table and are 3 points behind Ashton United who sit above the drop but have played two games less.
Since then however, it’s been announced by the club that they have controversially appointed Gary Hayward from high flying Hednesford Town as their permanent manager.
The club statement read: “Buxton F.C. is delighted to announce the appointment of Gary Hayward as First Team Manager in succession to Paul Phillips.
Gary held a similar position at Hednesford since last April, guiding Town to a high place in the recently-created Central Division and accordingly has received the blessing on the move from the Club’s owner, Steve Price.
Gary has commented: Even though it was heart-wrenching to leave Hednesford, I’m really looking forward to getting started immediately at Buxton, hoping to hit the ground running and putting a smile back on the players’ and supporters’ faces.”
Fans gave their reaction to both Danny Wilson being appointed as the temporary boss of Buxton, but also on the newly appointed Gary Hayward – find out what they had to say on the next page.
