Former Huddersfield Town winger Giorgos Donis has revealed that he is interested in returning to his club, but as manager.
He is currently in charge of the Greek giants Panathinaikos, who have won their league 20 times, though in his first season in charge with them, they finished a disappointing 8th.
Despite this he remains in charge and still has two years left on his contract, which he’s said has put him in a ‘complicated’ position.
But speaking to The Sun this week, he said: “Now this opportunity is complicated as I have another two years on my contract and the project is going really well and it is not an easy decision to move.
“But for me, to have experience in England as a manager is one of my biggest ambitions.
“Especially at Huddersfield where I played. I didn’t show my best as I was injured for most of the time but it is a very interesting in the Championship.
“The Championship is like the top division in many other countries because there are a lot of good clubs with history.
“Everything depends on the clubs for me. I’m happy that I’m at a big club in Greece but it is a different experience to be in England and I love English football.”
He was a midfielder at the Terriers 19 years ago and made 21 appearances between 1999 and 2000 and previously played for Sheffield United, AEK Athens, Blackburn Rovers, Panathinaikos and PAS Giannina.
His managerial career has seen him manage Ilisiakos (61.7% win), AEL (35.5% win), AEK Athens (30.0% win), Atromitos (36.9% win), PAOK (61.9%), APOEL (57.4%), Al-Hilal (68.2% win), Al-Sharjah (30.8% win),
APOEL (61.0 % win) and Panathinaikos (42.9%).
