Former EFL player, 39, now working TWO international first team manager jobs at once

Former EFL player, Scott Wiseman, 39, is now working TWO international first team manager jobs at once in Gibraltar.

He’ll be juggling two international first-team manager roles simultaneously as of March 2025, fair to say he’s got his work cut out.

After retiring from professional football in May 2023, Wiseman transitioned into coaching and has taken on significant responsibilities with the Gibraltar Football Association.

He currently serves as the head coach of the Gibraltar women’s national team, a position he has held since shortly after his retirement, while also managing the women’s under-19 team.

In addition to these roles, he was recently appointed as the interim head coach of the Gibraltar men’s national team for the upcoming World Cup qualifiers, with his first matches scheduled against Montenegro and the Czech Republic on March 22 and 25, 2025.

Scott Wiseman | Gibraltar Women's NT Manager

A statement was posted earlier in the week: “The Gibraltar Football Association is pleased to announce the appointment of Scott Wiseman as Interim Head Coach of the Gibraltar Men’s National Team for the upcoming FIFA World Cup 2026 European Qualifiers against Montenegro and Czechia later this month.

“Scott’s current role with the Women’s National Team remains unaffected.”

The GFA says it will not be rushing to find a well known “name” to replace Julio Ribas as Head Coach of the Men’s National Football Team, saying its more important to find someone who knows and understands Gibraltar football.

Speaking to Ros Astengo, GFA General Secretary Ivan Robba praised interim manager Scott Wiseman’s achievements, and confirmed that former Captain Roy Chipolina is now working full-time at the Association.

Ivan said: It is true that Scott has done a fantastic job since he took over and testament to that is just sort of the recent matches that we’ve seen the girls were fantastic you know they really look really really really competitive and we could have won the games so I think it’s obviously a testament to his professionalism and the skill set that he will bring to the Men’s National Team which is badly needed at the moment considering the sudden news that we received from Julio Ribas so yeah it’s an interesting time for for him and for us certainly going forward

Interviewer: How do you begin the process of finding a full-time manager and when will that begin?

Ivan: so actually I was I was thinking about this on the way here it’s it’s been a very interesting process over the last two weeks because I mean we we did know that Julio’s contract expired this year we hadn’t yet sat with him to see what his intentions were obviously there there was a dialogue to be had there on going forward but the process to actually appoint a successor short term medium-term long-term has started now and what’s been very interesting is how how much expertise there is in house to decide what we want. If I go back years ago when we appointed Julio the setup that we have now is not even close to what we had at the time and now we have an identity we have people here with expertise skill sets in coaching in football from the technical side and for me and certainly for the board to be able to consult and use this expertise to plan the way forward is fantastic, so short term we had two key elements which we wanted to cover one of them is to bring stability to news which was very sudden, so bring stability for the matches that just two and a half three weeks away, and the second element was to bring someone with a clear set of skills that could navigate us, with a stability but also bringing in new ideas to see how we respond to that so that’s the short term and now we will structure ourselves internally to have a proper plan and we’ll see how much goes and we’ll see what we do for the for the campaign

Interviewer: And is there a deadline

Ivan: No I think that when small associations such as ourselves we can’t rush into bringing in someone from the outside Gibraltar is very peculiar place I think we have to find our own identity know what we want and not just at a name or jump at a CV it’s very easy to have a very good CV, experienced CV, but might not fit into Gibraltar so we’ve learned that Julio was great we need to find someone who will complement what he’s done but knows Gibraltar knows Gibraltarian players knows what it means to play for us and we need to factor all these things in and not just find the name

Interviewer: And it was good to see “Gibraltar’s Captain Fantastic” being named as help a support to Scott Wiseman, Roy Chipolina, can we expect to see more involvement from Roy uh with footballing going forward

Ivan: Yeah certainly I mean Roy is working with us now full-time um since he’s retired from football it was no-brainer to bring Roy in the just just the name in itself brings a lot but Roy is the experience he’s had on the field um the the football in brain that he has and uh he can contribute a lot to the association so he’s with us now, he’s hit the hit the road running as as they say and he’s very involved in absolutely all types of development aspects so he’s finding his feet and but he will be a fantastic asset to us

Fans reacted to the former Championship player, 39, now working TWO international first team manager jobs at once…

@reb_calderon: Isn’t it weird that Scott Wiseman is Women’s coach, Men’s coach, U19s & more. There’s lots of coaches in #Gibraltar who have the same qualifications, why isn’t work shared? Also weird that GFA President is the Attorney General. Where in the world do these odd appointments happen?
