Former Championship player joins Grantham Town as player/first team coach

Grantham Town have recently confirmed that former Championship player Francois Zoko has joined the club as a player and first team coach.

The Northern Premier League side have also revealed he will take up a Football in the Community role, with Adam Smith moving up to a player/assistant manager role.

You could say Zoko is known rather well in the English Football League after he made appearances for Carlisle United (won the EFL Trophy with in 2011), Notts County, Stevenage, Blackpool, Bradford City and Yeovil Town between 2010 and 2019.

Prior to that the Ivory Coast born striker played football in Belgium (KV Oostende and Mons), Turkey (Hacettepe Spor Kulübü) and France (Laval and Nancy).

In his career, he’s scored 119 goals in 601 appearances between 2001 and present day.

Manager Paul Rawden said on the new signing: “Francois will be a great asset for the club, both on and off the pitch. His professionalism and knowledge will really benefit the younger players in the squad. I’m delighted!”

Zoko was named in the starting lineup for the Gingerbreads and got on the scoresheet to make it 4-0 against Radcliffe before the 36 year old was substituted off.
