Footage emerges of James McClean having the last laugh after being on the receiving end of a number of chants from Blackpool fans.
The Twitter account ‘The Fast Lovin’ Sin-Soaked Heathen’ (@fast_sin), tweeted: “Blackpool fans firmly cemented their place in the vile sectarian, right-wing racist camp with a torrent of vitriol aimed at Wrexham hero James McClean yesterday.
“Remarkably, “F*ck the Pope” was also chanted with gusto.
“James, however, gave as good as he got as these clips show”
@LoyalFamilyMan1 asked: “Simple question. Why do no other Irish players out of hundreds playing in the UK receive abuse? 🤔”
@fast_sin replied: “@LoyalFamilyMan1 Simple answer. James is quite possibly the only high-profile Irish player who refuses to wear the poppy due to its current connotations, whilst respecting its WW1 origin – and isn’t afraid to stand up to those who abuse him every week for his beliefs.”
@dave1772 said: “I agree, embarrassing. Although no one was chanting ‘fuck the pope’.”
@fast_sin responded: “@dave1772 the “f*ck the Pope and the IRA” chant was clearly belted out in the Mortensen for approximately 30 seconds during the second half. Sky covered the match so unless they dampened the sound, I’d imagine you could catch it on playback.”
The Fast Lovin’, Sin-Soaked Heathen posted a video on Twitter, with it going on to get over 700,000 views, then a full version on YouTube…
