Footage emerges of a fan throwing beer at Tony Craig during Dorking’s defeat to Torquay, with the clip doing the rounds on social media.
The BunchOfAmateurs team, who records footage of their matchdays, captured the moment and tweeted: “It blows our minds that someone would throw a beer at a player, let alone Tony Craig.
“At a game where there are TEN CAMERAS FILMING.”
Torquay won the game with the only goal coming from Jordan Dyer, the result meaning Dorking are 5th and Torquay are 6th in the National League South, both with 71 points from 39 games played, 6 points from the leaders Worthing, who have a game in hand.

Co chair of Torquay, Michael Westcott @goddywestie, tweeted: This is absolutely NOT who we are and this unacceptable behaviour from this ‘fan”.
“An apology to @DorkingWDRS and Tony will be forthcoming on behalf of all of us @TUFC1899.
“I waited to see Marc White after the game to let him know, but his media circus takes priority evidently and our bus had to leave. So we’ll be in touch #tufc”
CLUB STATEMENT:
Torquay United FC wishes to issue the following statement regarding an incident that occurred at Meadowbank on Saturday.
Following on from what was a superb victory for Paul Wotton’s side at Dorking Wanderers on Saturday, it is with great disappointment that the Club has to address an incident that occurred in the crowd during the match.
Video footage of the incident has been reviewed by the Club, and the individual has since come forward to identify themself. They can now expect to receive a severe sanction, including a Club ban.
In the meantime, everybody at Torquay United FC would like to offer its sincere apologies to Dorking player Tony Craig, and everybody connected with DWFC.
TUFC would like to stress that this behaviour does not reflect the Club’s values, or the vast majority of our devoted fanbase, most of whom represent the Club with distinction, home and away.
Regrettably though, this is not the first time that the Club has been forced to tackle incidents relating to unacceptable fan behaviour this season, with the Club having already been subject to a severe reprimand from the FA.
Clearly, incidents such as what occurred on Saturday will only see further scrutiny, and possible punishments, imposed on the Club.
In the midst of a promotion battle on the field, and at a time when Torquay United has welcomed more fan representation at all levels of the Club than ever before off the field, it is incredibly disheartening that a small minority of our followers chose to bring our Club’s name into disrepute, and tarnish our hard-earned reputation as a proud, competitive, but friendly and welcoming Football Club.
Any supporters that are intent in engaging in intimidating, abusive, violent or illegal behaviour are NOT, and never will be, welcome at Torquay United Football Club.
The message could not be clearer – Stay Away.
TUFC will continue to work with authorities to ensure all types of anti-social behaviour is eradicated from our Football Club once and for all.
Finally, we would like to place on record our heartfelt thanks to all those supporters that provide the team with such fantastic support, home and away, every single match. As mentioned before, it is hugely appreciated by everyone at Plainmoor, and we will not allow the mindless acts of a few individuals to spoil the matchday experience for all those who only want the best for TUFC.
“I thought we were good today,” Torquay manager Paul Wotton told BBC Radio Devon.
“It’s another three points, we had eight cup finals before today, now we’ve got seven, we just keep plugging away.
“I thought we defended, really, really well – I can’t remember my goalie really having a save to make.
“We didn’t want to come here and sit on the edge of our box for 98 minutes because Dorking would have scored, and we knew we had to be better with the ball.
“So all in all, it’s only three points, but it’s a really good reaction to Tuesday night’s disappointment.”
Wotton said, per Devon Live: “It was a good reaction to Tuesday night’s flat performance. We trained really well on Thursday and Friday. We changed three personnel to freshen it up a bit. We came here with a game plan to be brave, and I thought we were. Dorking are a very good team. They have had tremendous success over the years and will continue to do so. They have got good players and they are well managed.”
Wotton added: “It’s another three points and I just think, without being blase about it, I thought today we had eight cup finals and now we have got seven.
“It is a great chance for us next week to recover, and rest, and get on the training ground and keep working. Because we haven’t been able to do a great deal of coaching. It’s our third away win on the trot, which is good, and a clean sheet is always great. It’s just three points, isn’t it. There’s still a long way to go, Bath – I know Darren Way very well – and that’s going to be a really tough game.”
Twitter users reacted as footage emerges of fan throwing beer at Tony Craig during Dorking’s defeat to Torquay…
@DillonGascoigne: This twat doesn’t represent Torquay United. I’m sure he’ll be dealt with and we won’t see him inside a football stadium again. Disgraceful!
@OllieR36028: He was a right prick I’m the one in the the jacket in the middle and he does not represent this football club, when I turned around to see who also soaked me with some beer he proudly admitted that it was him absolute tosser he got a word from a couple fans including me.
@LawrencePFCHall: “Alexa, show me why fans can’t have beers in the stands in the football league”
@Jonny___Jones: Been to every away game this season and never seen this clown before. As always, act of one tarnishes everyone else. Hopefully he’s identified and banned.
@sam_jeffs: What is it with people who seem to think you can be a knob because you are at a football match. Throwing a pint is daft enough as it is, doing while you are there with your daughter just makes me lost for words
@donttakethepeas: No time for idiots like this. This idiot doesn’t represent Torquay. We’re sorry. This isn’t our club.
@Moodyhornet: Absolute div, banning order coming his way!
@dan_torquay_man: So sorry this happened. Totally unacceptable. As a father who was there today with my son to see that the drink was thrown over a young girl watching the game makes it even worse. Not acceptable!
@tomlewis110381: What a great example to set, children all around and one right in front who no doubt got covered… absolute helmet and not needed at any ground in the country 🤬🤬😡
@Rudolphhucker67: This one incident will encourage the FA to stop people having a beer at games. It’s already hard enough for lower league clubs to make any money.
@TwistedLFC: Saw this during the game, disgusting. Would have loved to see TC hop over that barrier.
@GeorgeKirk36299: The only way he’ll be watching football again is through your YouTube 😂😂
@__Hodgy__: And this is why most normal folk can’t have a pint while viewing top tier football. Utter mongs have no control and ruin it for the rest.
