Five clubs express interest in signing Macaulay Langstaff with official bid made for goalscorer

Five clubs reportedly express an interest in signing Notts County’s Macaulay Langstaff with an official bid made for the goalscorer.

The 27 year old was only made captain in June and had signed a new deal until 2027 back in August, but that might have just added to the price with many sides expected to get his signature within this summer’s transfer window.

It was @DarrenOWitcoop tweeted on Friday (28th June): “Expect Macaulay Langstaff to leave Notts County before September’s deadline. Five clubs, including three from League One, have declared an interest with Millwall making an official bid for the striker. #nottscounty #millwall”

Football Insider also said this week that the Lions, who finished the 2023/24 Championship season sitting 13th with 59 points from 46 games played, put in an offer with South London Press also getting confirmation on this.

Richard Cawley tweeted what Neil Harris had to say on Millwall’s bid for Macaulay Langstaff: “I’m fully aware of what has been written in the press and leaked online. But I am not prepared to talk about other club’s players in detail.

“What I will say is I’m fully aware of the player, having started last season in League Two and seen a lot of the player at the start of the season and watched a lot of National League football the season before.

“I’m fully aware of his attributes.”

As per Wales Online, he is also on the radar of Swansea, who are now managed by Langstaff’s former boss Luke Williams.

The North East lad began his youth career with Middlesbrough academy at the age of 10, and later played for Boro Rangers before signing with then-Wearside Football League club Stockton Town in 2014.

Langstaff made his way into Stockton’s first team squad while attending college in 2015, he started playing for another local side in Billingham Synthonia.

After netting 31 goals in 65 appearances in all competitions, he signed his first professional contract with Gateshead in February 2017, going on to make five appearances before being loaned back to Billingham and then made 17 appearances for Blyth Spartans.

His journey eventually led him to professional football and York City came calling, so linked up with them in a spell that lasted between 2018 to 2020, and after 60 appearances and 11 goals, he made the return to Gateshead in 2020 for another two seasons.

In his first season, he scored four goals in 16 appearances, but it was the 2021–22 season that he made headlines across the football world.

He scored 32 goals in 44 games across all competitions, leading the league and earning the Player of the Season award. Gateshead secured promotion to the National League as champions that season.

Then he signed for Notts County in 2022 on a three-year contract for a reported transfer fee of £50,000, ending his time with Gateshead, having scored 36 goals in 62 games.

His goals didn’t stop there, continuing to flourish, by mid-October, he had already scored 15 goals in 13 games, drawing comparisons to Erling Haaland, practically battling with him to try and come up the top scorer in English football.

He set a new Notts County club record and the National League division record for league goals in a season, scoring 42 goals in 48 games, helping guide them to an EFL return.

In the 2023/24 season, his first in League Two, Langstaff was still in hot form, 29 goals in 49 matches, was named in the EFL League Two Team of the Season and also won the League Two Golden Boot.

So it’s no wonder that once again he’s being linked with a number of club high up, having unfortunately been able to get successive promotions with Notts County.

But will he moved on or stay loyal? Whoever he signs for, it will be a big move.

Five clubs express interest in signing Macaulay Langstaff with official bid made for goalscorer, with fans speculating over whether he’ll leave this window.

@Ncfc_emilio: 1.5m in the bank 🫡

@Kieranbcfc2: Deffo one id be in for. Also don’t think it would rule us out of still going for one in a higher division also. Lauristen, Langstaff and Max Dean/Dixon. With Jukey as a rotational leader. Stunning 🤩 #bcfc

@conorkeane21: Could we be one 👀 #bcfc

@JamesKelly2398: PLEASE BLUES #BCFC

@doddsy_01: If we do sell, it’ll probably be the biggest % profit a league two club has ever made.

@PhilRichards82: At 27 years old I have to ask myself why he has never played higher than League Two, and if he joins us he’ll be jumping up 2 divisions. I’m presuming Notts County will want a decent fee, so for me it would be a big gamble, and not one I’m sure we can afford to take. I will trust in whatever decision Luke Williams makes though. #swans

@Lionsroar_79: Didn’t Notts County want a few million for him last season?

@CiaranH85: £2m

@taycalava: I’d take him all day long . Proven goalscorer.

@Llawllim41: Sounds a long way till anything concrete but this would be the perfect signing for us. Fingers crossed #millwall

@HughesyGWH: We can’t afford strikers that regularly score 25+ a season, so to get one would need some compromises like age, level, wages etc. Not the target man type we expected, but an interesting punt maybe. #millwall

@FruitnVeggie: We’re never going to afford someone who’s scored goals already at this level so this is the only way we’ll get a proper goal scorer really. I’ll be happy if we pull this off

@DanHoughton_: No brainier. It’s about time we tapped into the lower league market to pick up gems. I called for us to sign Langstaff when he was scoring for fun in the National League. The Championship is a giant leap but definitely a gamble worth taking with him!

@4thGenCOYL: Honestly but 50 50 with this. League two to championship is a massive step up. This either works masterclass or fails badly.

@Livermore8: We’ve always said we should look at best players from leagues below. Can’t knock it when we start trying to do it

@KaneP1111: I don’t get this mindset though, you’re not gonna get a top championship/league one forward without being priced out, so this is next option. Zero worries.

@bignhoj: Could of said the same with Harris and look how that turned out, never know and he is a proven goal scorer and at the right age

@Boy69Scotty: Worked well with Moro Harris and Gregory

@edgey_1: At least we are bidding for players who can improve us

@georgemfc1: Well in ‘wall

@Lee_1472: Would love to see how he turns out if we did end up getting him @

@BL98MFC: Lee Gregory 2.0

@SmiffyMFC: Was expecting us to go for a lot worse. Think he could make the step up, very decent player. Can see Harris going back to 2 upfront with him!

@milllllll_: Would be some signing
