Favourites to become new Shrewsbury Town manager after confirming departure of Paul Hurst and his assistant boss Chris Doig.
They fell to a 2-1 defeat at league below Salford in the FA Cup First Round, and have only picked up 8 points after 14 games in League One, leaving them second from bottom and three points from safety but teams above them have games in hand.
This was in his second spell at Salop, but has been dismissed after a run of just one win in their last 12 games in all competitions.

CLUB STATEMENT:
It is with regret that Shrewsbury Town can confirm we have parted company with head coach Paul Hurst and assistant boss Chris Doig.
This decision was made following an emergency board meeting held this morning.
Paul and Chris returned to the Croud Meadow in January this year and were instrumental in keeping the club in League One last season.
However, after a run that has seen us win just two of our 19 games this season (a win rate of 10.5 per cent), the board feels a change is needed.
The chairman would like to thank both Paul and Chris for all their hard work over the past 11 months.
We would also like to thank them for the outstanding work they did in their first spell ā which saw us reach the League One play-off final and the final of the EFL Trophy.
It was that success that led to the Chairman taking responsibility for re-hiring Paul and Chris earlier this year.
And everyone at the football club is hugely disappointed their second spell hasnāt worked out and we find ourselves in our current position.
The search for a new head coach is now underway.

š£ļø Mat Sadler
Would be a popular choice but has recently signed a contract extension at #Walsall and the Saddlers are 2nd in League Two.
He still lives locally and would be on the wish list of some fans.
Would need Sadler to make moves for this to happen with budgets tight atā¦ pic.twitter.com/yt1NNCzO5i

Highly-rated coach who was given the #Plymouth job earlier this year. That only lasted four months but his coaching cv with England U18,19,20s is impressive, playing a key role in the development of a number of the current #England side. One to watch. pic.twitter.com/0ZZDyjS8fa

HURST’S LAST INTERVIEW:
“We’ve got to somehow pull through it and win games,” the head coach said, per Shropshire Star.
“There’s obviously been a few words in the dressing room there, but I take responsibility because I’ve put a group of players together.
“So, I’ve said maybe I’ve got it wrong. That’s the question. Either I’ve got it wrong or they have to start proving that that’s not the case. But that wasn’t a performance that I think was worthy of winning the game, certainly.”One of trying to give the fans something that they want and desperately want.
“Because, again, it was another really excellent turnout and we have not given them enough today. I think they’ve seen it certain games, I would like to think I am truthful about what I see, but that we need to be better.”
“Terrific following and we started the game extremely poorly. You heard me shout press, you heard the respect I have in terms of the competition, playing a team from a league below.”Like I said, being on the other side of that, well, being on both sides, you have to be ready.
“We didn’t start well, so then that gives them a lift instantly. We get back in the game, and then we create a few things, but not playing in the way that I would have liked us to, in terms of things that we talked about and worked on.
“And then go 2-1 down. Have a great chance straight away after as the keeper makes a save.
“Then second half, we started to have a little go, and then it kind of petered out a bit, and then towards the end, we’re pushing, but the reality is you can’t make life harder for yourself than it is.
“And an effort at the end to push is too late. So, extremely disappointed and not an enjoyable day in the slightest.
“I think it’s something at times it almost feels like we’re not understanding the situation that we’re finding ourselves in.
“We still seem to take too long in getting the ball back in play. Because the times that we did up it slightly, I think we looked like we could cause a problem. As I say, at the end, I think we are pushing.”
Here’s how fans reacted amid the favourites to become new Shrewsbury manager after confirming the departure of Paul Hurst…
@loganstfc: Can Moore go next? cheers
@iMack82: Wrong people leaving. Roland out
@Shrewshol: Please can you release a statement detailing why on earth the donkey that is Micky Moore is still with the club? As far as Iām concerned he is equally responsible for this mess – as well as the chairman and the board.
@RHShrew: This wonāt make a jot of difference if those above him donāt go as well. Donāt be fooled our current position is not solely down to Paul Hurst and Chris Doig. The problems run much much deeper! Significant change is required! #salop
@mrmagoomr: Been thrown under the bus by a Chairman who is dragging this club into League Two and should of sold up years ago. This will only add fire to the Roland Out chants.
@janepittaway777: Sad to see this. Just on a never ending hamster wheel. Nothing will change for the better until RW goes (&MM) He has had no ambition since we moved to the new ground. Will be very surprised if any new coach can turn our season around. The squad just isnāt good enough š¤Ø
@Joeshrewsbury30: Now just Roland and Moore š
@STFCW1LL1999: Still won’t change the fact that the problem lies with the chairman. The next manager won’t be an improvement
@ftfcknappers: Was always going to happen, felt he did ok last season, and kept the club up.. Wins was against Northampton, Reading, Port Vale (relegated) Carlisle (relegated) Orient – (this season). 1 win in the last 12 games – (2D9L). Felt heās been living on what he did in 17/18ā¦
@TomWootton6601: Where the fuck do we go from here. No money, chairman wants out, and weāre nailed on league two next year. What sort of manager can we even attract?
@liamnorthwood96: I’ll always love Hurst for what he did in 2017/18 but this second spell has been a disaster. I’d love to see Ryan Lowe in charge but that’s not gonna happen without a takeover. The sooner RW sells up the better
@OLSTFC: Hopefully a new manager can come in and make a difference but I really canāt see it! Weāve been poor for years now and it starts at the very top down! š·š¶
@Chris_Pearsall: Genuinely who is actually going to what this job, would be brain dead to take it
@Hampton_Lakes: Whilst results meant this was on the cards, this would suggest to me that a takeover isn’t anywhere close to happening and that’s the most worrying thing
@jmendelsohn77: OK I did NOT see this coming. FWIW (and I’m hardly alone in this) I don’t think a change of manager will particularly solve the deepening crisis at the club. #salop
@tom_Salop:
Sad to see it end the way it did but had to be done.
Just hope we can somehow get someone good in.
@Salop_Nathan: Whatās the fuckin point. Whoās gonna come in and suddenly keep us up?
Noting your managerās season win rate in your official club statement feels particularly brutalā¦ https://t.co/FOgjY1Ywoy pic.twitter.com/qBZ7fhqfvH
