The Irish know Mick McCarthy all too well after he guided the Republic of Ireland to the 2002 World Cup finals.
He is highly regarded by the FAI and he has said he is open for a return to the national side.
McCarthy was most recently Ipswich Town manager since 2012, however left the club on 10 April 2018.
Other teams to have managed are Millwall, Sunderland (won the Championship 2004/05) and Wolves (won the Championship 2008/09).
