Favourites for Leyton Orient manager

After Ross Embleton stepped down from his role as manager of Leyton Orient earlier this week, we’ve taken a look at who are favourites for the job at Brisbane Road.

Embleton, who reverts back to assistant coach, was appointed as interm-manager after the sad passing of Justin Edinburgh in June, just a month after winning the National League title.

Orient currently 21st in the League Two table, picking up 9 points after 10 matches.

Take a look at who are the top six favourites below and on the next page.

6) SOL CAMPBELL

Sol Campbell was recently the manager of League Two side Macclesfield Town, but last week resigned from the role after not being paid for the final four months he was at the club.

He miraculously managed to keep the Silkmen in the Football League, despite taking over when relegation seemed an almost certainty, and went onto post a 26.7% win ratio.

His work at his previous club has been noticed by Tony Cascarino, who told talkSPORT: “To keep them up was pretty much a minor miracle. I’ve lauded Phil Parkinson at Bolton when he got promoted when he was under a [transfer] embargo.

“He went down and he’s still their manager. He’s in a similar situation [to Campbell], imagine coming in here and none of us have been paid and we’re having to do a show.

“Sol had only lost two of his last 10 games. So when I heard the news midweek, and it was apparently by both parties mutual consent, I was stunned with the circumstances that Sol had thrown himself into.”

5) DEREK ADAMS

Derek Adams was most recently Plymouth Argyle manager, having been sacked in April 2019.

He was appointed in 2015, guided Argyle to the League Two playoff final in his first season, but lost to AFC Wimbledon.

The following season, he guided them to 2nd and promotion to League One.

The 2017/18 season saw him incredible guide them from relegation to playoff contenders in the second half of the campaign, finishing 7th.

Plymouth then ended up getting relegated in the 2018/19 season, Adams received a huge amount of criticsm from fans, and he was axed, but it was all too late for the club to avoid the drop.

4) KEVIN NUGENT

Kevin Nugent is a former Leyton Orient, Plymouth, Bristol City, Cardiff and Swasea player as well as an ex Swansea, Orient anc Charlton assistant who also managed Barnet.

He parted company with Barnet on 15 April 2017, after only winning one of 11 matches during his two months in charge. Nugent was appointed manager of the under-23 team at Millwall in August 2017.
