Farnborough v Aldershot friendly sees ’22-man brawl’ with players and fan in altercation

The midweek Farnborough v Aldershot friendly sees a heated ’22-man brawl’ with players and a fan also caught up in an altercation.

The two non league sides played out a 1-1 draw, Jack Barham got one back on the 67th minute after Alfie Pavey put the hosts ahead in the first half.

Jack Boswell (@jackdboswell) summed up the game rather well, saying:
“Farnborough’s Cup Final finishes 1-1
A summary:
– Entertaining game with plenty of chances
– Shots denied 2 clear pens
– Boro player shoves Stokes to floor
– 20 man brawl
– Boro player altercation with Shots fans
– Boro player booked
– Tolaj sent off for punch”

Farnborough took the lead as Alfie Pavey finished well past goalkeeper Van Stappershoef into the bottom corner.

The second half turned rather sour on 60 minutes with Stokes, who showed great feet in the box to beat his man, was tripped, he attempted to get back to his feet, only to then be pushed back to the ground twice by Sid Nelson.

Aldershot said via their match report: “Whether there was contact or not, it’s never nice to see an experienced player burst out at a youngster.

“It seemed all 22 players were involved in a brawl that broke out after which resulted in Lorent Tolaj receiving a red card and Sid Nelson getting a yellow…

“But back to the football and it didn’t take the 10-men of Aldershot to get back in the game. Jack Barham showed a great touch to pluck the ball out of the air and cut in from the left. He then produced a lovely finish to find the bottom corner and an equaliser for his side.”

Farnborough assistant manager Jon Reed said post-match: “A good exercise tonite for us @FarnboroughFC v Aldershot. Thought we deserved a bit more from the game. We scored a well worked goal to take the lead. They had a man sent off for handbags and then we conceded a sloppy goal. Need to rid these mistakes from our game.

“Looked compact and comfortable in the 1st half. 2nd half a little disjointed. Lots of positives. A huge crowd of 1000+ turned out to give it a good local Derby atmosphere. Spoilt by the Ref for most, but a very good work out. On to Sutton Utd at home on Sat!”
