Fans seemingly spot a ‘dig’ from Dion Charles as he explains his reasons on leaving Bolton Wanderers for Huddersfield Town.
They had a good read and/or listen as to what he had to say, with Bolton fans taking to social media, claiming it’s very telling.
Charles mentioned that the lack of game time at Bolton this season was a “decisive factor” in his decision to move while expressing that fellow League One side Huddersfield provided a more positive vibe and that the style of play suited him better, which could be perceived as an indirect criticism of Bolton’s current team atmosphere or tactical setup.
✍️ We are delighted to confirm the permanent signing of forward Dion Charles from Bolton Wanderers for an undisclosed fee.

CLUB STATEMENT:
We are delighted to confirm the permanent signing of forward Dion Charles from fellow Sky Bet League One side Bolton Wanderers for an undisclosed fee, with the 29-year-old committing to the Club until 2027!
A natural goalscorer, Charles joins Town on the back of 57 goals in 149 appearances for Bolton Wanderers, capping off his time in Lancashire with two appearances at Wembley in the Sky Bet League One Play-Off Final and Virtu Trophy Final in 2023, with his goal contributing to a 4-0 win.
A full international for Northern Ireland and teammate of Brodie Spencer and Callum Marshall, he’s scored three goals for his country in 22 caps since making his debut in 2021. Starting his career at the Blackpool academy, Charles established himself in non-league football before working his way up the leagues.
With eight goals and four assists in 29 appearances in all competitions so far this season, Dion becomes our third additional this month after Ruben Roosken and Joe Taylor, and he will take the squad number 15 for Town.
Huddersfield Town Sporting Director Mark Cartwright commented:
“I’m really happy to have Dion join the Club, and with his arrival following both Ruben and Joe’s arrivals, it’s been a very positive January transfer window for us already only halfway through the month as we’ve looked to get our business complete in good time.
“When you look at the underlying metrics of the side, we are right up there in terms of chance creation, key passes and expected goals, but our chance conversion hasn’t been where it’s needed to be. Having gone undefeated in Sky Bet League One for over three months despite that, our ambition for the season remains the same as ever, and we are doing all we can to put Michael and his team in a position to succeed.
“Dion’s goal scoring record speaks for itself at both club and international level, and bringing him in alongside Joe Taylor gives us a completely refreshed front line. Players we believe will work well together and be complimentary on the pitch, I’m again grateful for Chairman Kevin Nagle and CEO Jake Edwards’ support in bringing a second forward to the Club this month.”
Huddersfield Town Head Coach Michael Duff added:
“It’s brilliant to see Dion join the Club, and I’m looking forward to getting to work with him alongside his new teammates straight away.
“Someone I’ve coached against many times, he is not only a constant goal threat but an incredibly diligent forward, and I believe he’ll compliment those around him in the team well within our systems and structures of play.
“Joining us in the prime of his career, Dion’s ambition matches our own and he’s the type of player I know Huddersfield Town fans will want to get behind. All three new arrivals in January give us renewed belief and focus heading into an important second half of the season.”

Our latest signing Dion Charles said:
“I was immediately attracted to the ambition of the Club and prospect of playing my part in getting Huddersfield Town back where we belong, so I’m delighted to have completed the move and become a Town player.
“In discussions with Mark Cartwright and Michael Duff, you get excited about where the Club want to be and the levels expected from the players who are here. I’ve only heard great things about the Club and team from Brodie and Callum, and I believe this is the right move for my career and somewhere I can look to push myself to become an even better player.
“There’s a really important second half of the season to come, but with the team in great form and the mood around the Club so positive, I’m just looking forward to pulling on the shirt for the first time and showing what I’m all about.”
Welcome to the Terriers, Dion!
When speaking in the interview, Dion said, as picked up on by The Bolton News: “I have got a point to prove. This season I have probably not played as much as I wanted and that’s a deciding factor in why I chose to come here.
“It’s a massive club here. I felt like it was time to move on from Bolton.
“I loved every minute of Bolton. I have had probably the best moments of my career there – scoring at Wembley, winning at Wembley, things like that.
“But I am here now and looking forward to working hard and getting this club back to where it needs to be.
“The style of football suits me down to the ground and will get the best out of me and where I am in my career. Look, they have created so many chances and I am a player who relies on service and hopefully it all goes well.
“Speaking to the gaffer it is really clear why he is bringing me to this great football club, and it’s to score goals. I’d back myself to do that, given the opportunities.
“Look, I’m looking forward to it. I’m a player who likes to work hard and leave nothing out on the pitch, so I can’t wait to get going.
“We’re all here for the same common goal, we want to get promoted. We want to get back into the Championship and maybe the Premier League where this club was. But we all have to buy into it together, help each other, and pull in the same direction.
“I’ve played against the club twice this year and they have both been difficult games.
“From the outside looking in, nobody wants to play Huddersfield at the minute. They are on a tremendous run and knowing the gaffer and his teams are always set up well and difficult to play against, so it’s brilliant to come here.”
As mentioned, fans spot a ‘dig’ from Dion Charles as he explains reasons on leaving Bolton for Huddersfield…
@MrMattJ28: Loved every minute at Bolton but the manager is a cunt #bwfc
@wilsonbwfc: Evatt out
@loftys10_09: Best of luck dion lad thanks for the memories, hope you smash it and finally have a manager who appreciates your hard work and effort, no bad feeling from Bolton fans you always gave 110% every time you pulled that white shirt on go well pal 👍
@JamesJpowna: What’s bad is he must have had a fall out with Ian Evatt, and is obviously one of the better players, but think everyone knows Evatt hanging on to his job , and will have forced him out of @OfficialBWFC
@CharlieSay_: You know what we’re good at atm? Scoring goals right? So I’m so glad we sold our top scorer in the league.. great idea hey
@bwfc_: Superb player, benched too much and not used in the right way. Good luck Dion, you deserve the starts you’ll get at H’field.
@1877BC: ENOUGH IS ENOUGH #EvattOut #BrittanOut
@APBroome1995: A fan favourite & the one of the main characters of the Evatt era. He’ll be missed greatly and goes with our best wishes. Hit goals for us like nobody has for a long time. Deserved more
@notlob_nut: Another very poor decision by the club, gutted with what’s happening at the moment 😔
@AndyBorland4: Charles is gonna be missed more than Evatt, when the inevitable finally transpires.
@kbbwfc1990: Should be the ‘manager’. Just do one Evatt. You’re making everyone miserable.
@JoeOldfield_: Club is a shambles at the minute. Not been firing admittedly but unless we’ve got a replacement lined up, it’s not good business
@jameswhatmough1: We are so unbelievably stupid it’s mad. #bwfc
