Fans react as an update emerges on Danny Rohl’s future at Sheffield Wednesday

Fans react as an update emerges on Danny Rohl’s future at Sheffield Wednesday, his time at the club looking like it has come to an end.

Late on Wednesday night (25 June), The Star reported that Sheffield Wednesday and manager Danny Rohl are in talks to resolve uncertainty about his future with the club.

Joe Crann (@YesWeCrann) tweeted just after 11pm: “Sheffield Wednesday and Danny Röhl are believed to be in discussions that would bring the saga over the manager’s future to an end, The Star understands.”

Alex Miller (@AlexMiller91) also said: “🚨 Understand Sheffield Wednesday and Danny Röhl are in ongoing talks to bring an end to the saga over his future.”

Rob Staton of BBC Sheffield said: “As per @alexmiller91, understand talks between Sheffield Wednesday and Danny Röhl are ongoing about a possible departure. Outcome not completely reached yet, some things still to discuss #SWFC

Mike McGrath of the Telegraph added: “Danny Röhl in talks over #SWFC exit. Players due back today for pre-season training but Röhl not expected to take session. His backroom staff are out of contract this mnth + also uncertainty over training facilities ready”

Rohl, who led the team to a Championship survival in his first season and a mid-table finish in his second, but has expressed ambitions to manage at a higher level.

Tensions with owner Dejphon Chansiri continue, and a dip in results toward the end of the 2024/25 season have strained relations further.

But despite interest from clubs in England and Germany, a significant compensation clause in Rohl’s contract has complicated potential moves.

As per reports, it would seem that Rohl has managed his last game for Wednesday, with his exit likely, although it is unclear whether it will be mutual consent, a sacking, or resignation, potentially affecting compensation if he takes another job.

With pre-season approaching, and Rohl unlikely to be in charge, there is a lot of uncertainty at the club, and may have to look to relying on academy staff due to expiring coach contracts.

Financial issues, punishment from the EFL, and unpaid players all add further complexity as the team prepares to return to training.

Fans react as an update emerges on Danny Rohl’s future at Sheffield Wednesday…

@GrantR_1867: Chansiri should have negotiated Rohl’s release clause, we were all saying it. Now he’s likely to leave for nowt. Standard practice by Chansiri, totally sums up the club while he’s been here. #SWFC

@harvey_walters_: So we don’t get any compo? Sound

@ZA_0wl: The way he’s gone about getting out is piss poor. He’s always wanted out from the get go, hence his family never came over like they did when he was at Southampton. If you’re an owner looking for a manager, would you go with someone who acted like him whilst under contract?

@arighttweet: Good luck, Danny. You deserve to be treated a hell of a lot better than you have done here.. next question is what same person is going to want to manage Sheffield Wednesday right now 🙈

@AndyJGard: No winners here. His lack of professionalism and class (touting himself everywhere) has seen him blot his own copybook and made him less attractive. This will see us miss out on the fee he signed up to. Not defending DC here but Röhl hasn’t bathed himself in glory

@Danny4swfc: Why on earth have we waited all summer to let Rohl leave 🤣🤷‍♂️ and not even tried to lower a fee for his release to another club when we’ve got fuck all? Maybe there was no interest in him 🤷‍♂️ if not another masterstroke from the main man because he’s leaving for fuck all anyway 🦉

@kburton95: From Hero to Zero, how you’ve killed your reputation in a very short period of time. Sad to see but glad to see. Was inevitable that there was no way we could allow him to manage the team after his post season antics. I hope he gets no better than nonleague job offers. 🖕 #swfc

@ROldfieldDesign: Fans should boycott buying the new shirt when released. We say hit him where it hurts, there you go #swfc

@Justom29: First game of the season we all have to get on the pitch if he’s still here. It’s gonna get ugly and we have to force him out. #swfc

@dannyswfc: Good to know these discussions aren’t left until the night before preseason is due to start. That would be silly.

@SteveHutton79: Another Chansiri masterclass on how NOT to run a football club! Biggest indication so far that he has no intention of selling. #chansiriout #swfc

@harrya14_09: Will always thank him for the great escape and for 3/4 of the second season. However it’s been clear his hearts not been at Wednesday since April so time to move on. Will go down as the one that got away 👍

@JamieSmith1911: Wanting a move under the circumstances is fair enough. Going about it the way he has is a kick in bollox for every Wednesday fan. But there’s zero loyalty in the game so don’t know why we expected any less. Clubs in free fall an I don’t see no parachute any time soon #swfc

@49Eddie: He’s never once acknowledged our gr8 fans who worshipped him from when the last ball was kicked. He showed complete disrespect by selling himself all around Europe all summer long wudnt pay the 5 million to acquire his services. Just shows he’s not worth that so gud riddance

@tommyuto: Thanks for his time, but I want him to go as fast as possible. We need to move on.
