Fans of one particular EFL club send Mike Ashley a message in the hope of saving their future as he prepares to sell up at Newcastle.
Derby County supporters have been calling for the controversial owner to buy the Rams as they continue to seek a buyer with the East Midlands outfit in administration.
Ashley, who has owned Newcastle for over 14 years, finally looks bound for departure, and a deal is said to be ‘imminent’ according to ChronicleLive.
The 57-year-old is no stranger to the area of Derbyshire either as Frasers Group (formerly Sports Direct International) is based in the Shirebrook area of Derbyshire, and Ashley himself hails from Walsall in the West Midlands according to reports.
He has also shown an interest in investing in other clubs outside of the North East before, holding an 8.92% stake in Scottish Premiership side Rangers for just under three years between 2014 and 2017.
He was then blocked from raising his shareholding due to a conflict of interest.
The last time Newcastle looked close to a takeover, fans speculated that Mike Ashley would sell up and then move to own Ipswich Town, who at the time was the much disliked Marcus Evans, however he left the League One side in April 2021.
As mentioned, some fans of EFL club Derby County send Mike Ashley a message in the hope of saving their future with Championship relegation looking likely and concerns still about over their £15m debt. After all, Ashley likes saving businesses in danger…
@MatthewEmslie: I’ve said it once and I’ll say it again, Mike Ashley buying Derby county incoming!
@Walsall_Ram: Dear Mr nice Saudi prince looking to follow your fellow prince into football… Hi. We’re Black and White too.
@MSR_78: Sports Direct Stadium I could live with lol
@mattbarnish: Now Mike Ashley has sold Newcastle and has businesses opening in derby do you think he could make a move. Probably a stupid question but just a hunch
@jasonhawkins87: Mike Ashley buying derby would be unreal. Turning failed business and making profit is his thing. Not sure he would want to get back into football though. 🤔
@tomburgess1984: As unpopular as he’s been for his approach, he’s exactly the kind of guy we need
@jon89gel: You’re going through a bad time granted but Mike Ashley is the last thing any football club needs, especially one of Derby’s stature. You’ll get there man
@nufclewizc: Be careful what you wish for
@adaml88: Newcastle fans right now must be buzzing! Wish we (were) in the same position.
@Danielwarren23: I would have Mike Ashley now then hopefully I can come back to Derby games
@JakeBarker1212: As Mike Ashley is on his way out of Newcastle… Fancy buying a Championship club and turning them into a stable Premier League club?
@barsby_p; Makes sense when his head office is in Shirebrook
@gingersaiyan9k: Mike Ashley only has one marketing idea and it’s Sports Direct. He will take over your club shop like he did ours and take 94% of the profit of the sales. You would lose advertising revenue as his SD signs go up and investment drops. You wouldn’t have a club. He’s not the answer!
@DayleBarron: They’ve barely got a club as it is
@tnylister50: I think your club is in enough trouble without having Mike Ashley as your owner. But it would be funny seeing him inflict pain on another club for 14 years.
@clews123: The marketing opportunities he would have with Rooney as well…. I would be happy if he saved our club
@NATHD_J: Well I mean if that’s what you want I suppose he could bring Bruce in to manage you lot too they seem to get on
@dcfc_phil: Sports Direct based in Derbyshire….
@LukeConway90: Could see this happening
@DCFClad: I’d take anyone to help Derby get out the rot currently in
@Rams80s: tbh we can’t be picky lol its a possibility tho.. I’m in favour of Andrew Appleby
@KhalSir: I’m surprised he has not gone in for us. If it wasn’t for all the other debts maybe. Could turn PP into a gigantic warehouse 😅
@LionelGalant: Scenes when Alan Pardew is appointed manager on an 8 year contract!
@Rob_K82: Who’s getting Mike Ashley on the blower then?
@dcfc87: Anybody else rather jealous of Newcastle right now?
@wardy22589: I’d like to think Mike Ashley could stay in football and look at 1 of the teams struggling in championship etc and help them survive balance their books and help them keep their club! He is a businessman at end of the day and could save Derby #NUFCTakeover
@SteveMcKenna_: I pity the club Mike Ashley buys next. Derby, Forest. Watch yourselves
@dcfc_smith: Mike Ashley to Derby
@Ella_Woodley: Am I the only person that doesn’t want Mike Ashley anywhere near Derby? #dcfc #dcfcfans
@MACCA1313: Derby fans wanting Mike Ashley as a saviour 🙈🙈🙈 They really haven’t got a clue #dcfc
