Fans mock Jeff Stelling after tweet of his comes back to haunt him

Fans have took to mock Jeff Stelling after a tweet of his about manager Dave Challinor comes back to haunt him this week.

The Sky Sports presenter, who announced that he will leave Soccer Saturday at the end of the season, gave his reaction on the speculation Stockport were after Hartlepool’s manager.

He took to his Twitter account to try and calm down any worries from his club’s fanbase that he would leave the League Two side.

The 66 year old wrote on October the 29th: “Like @StockportCounty as a football club – it is a proper club. But Dave Challinor always wanted to be manager of an EFL club. That’s why he is staying with us and not returning to National League. Sorry Stockport fans. Actually not sorry at all. And btw have you seen our fans!”

We have seen a surprise number of players quit the EFL in order to drop to the National League for more money it would seem, the likes of Paul Mullin going from newly promoted Cambridge for Wrexham and now former Bolton captain Antoni Sarcevic to Stockport, so it’s no wonder why some supporters are getting concerned with their managers/players getting tempted away.

Well Dave Challinor did just that, with Pools confirming he wanted to leave the club in order to have talks with the Hatters.

The news immediate got fans going back to Jeff Stelling tweet from a few days ago and he has since issue a further tweet.

It read: “Let’s not sugar coat this , DC leaving is terrible for our club. But he IS man who made us live the dream of returning to EFL. He has been made an offer that no one would turn down. Let’s remember him as one of the best managers in our history and wish him well.”

HARTLEPOOL CLUB STATEMENT:

“Dave Challinor has this afternoon informed the Hartlepool United Board that he wants to leave and join Stockport County FC.

“This follows an approach by Stockport to the manager through his agent during the course of last week, which Hartlepool United were informed of on Friday.

“As a club we were disappointed the first approach did not come direct to the club. Also that this was so soon after Dave signed a new three year contract.

“We believed we were building something special with Dave and this squad – matched by the magnificent support the team has received, home and away.

“Therefore, we declined a request from Stockport for permission to speak with Dave on Sunday.

“However, after speaking to him again on Monday, he has verbally notified us of his intention to leave.

“Ultimately, it is crucial that the manager of our club is 100% committed to the job. Dave had made it clear he wants to leave.

“Coach Anthony Sweeney will take charge of the team for Tuesday’s fixture with Everton and for the immediate future as interim manager while the Board consider its position in relation to this matter.”

DAVE’S WIFE’S STATEMENT:

“I just want to thank all of the Hartlepool fans from the bottom of hearts, we will forever be grateful for the unbelievable support you gave Dave and how you made us all feel such a huge part of ‘your’ club and town. We’ve had the most amazing time and met some incredible people. I totally understand people’s frustrations and some of the abuse aimed at us, it’s only because you love your club so much and don’t know what’s gone on behind the scenes. I just wanted to let people know that everything Dave ever said about his love for Hartlepool and the supporters was true and he was so proud and honoured to be your Manager. We’re all so gutted he’s leaving but I promise you there is more to it than just money. The supporters are what makes Hartlepool United so great and we’re genuinely sorry to be saying goodbye. We wish the club nothing but success and would love to come back one day and hopefully be welcomed when people realise why Dave had to make the decision he has.”
