Fans make feelings known with Karl Robinson sacked by Salford week on from playoff heartbreak

Fans make their feelings known with head coach Karl Robinson sacked by Salford City a week on from their playoff heartbreak.

The 45 year old’s time in charge of the Ammies has come to an end, his final game a 3-0 defeat to Notts County in the League Two playoff final.

Salford started the season as promotion contenders, dented in January and February, then missed out on an automatic spot on the final day after drawing with Crawley, who also avoided relegation.

Karl Robinson, who led Salford City to 8th and 4th finishes in his two full seasons, said sorry to those he and his side let down following defeat in the playoff final.

The club said in a statement:

Salford City Football Club can confirm that Karl Robinson will leave his position today as Head Coach with immediate effect.

This decision has been reached unanimously by the Club’s Board and Executive team following a thorough review of the football operation.

Karl has conducted himself throughout his time at Salford City with professionalism and integrity. He has worked tirelessly on behalf of the Club and has been fully dedicated to helping us achieve our ambitions, both on and off the pitch.

These decisions are never easy, but we believe this is the right moment to make a change as we look ahead to the next chapter in Salford City’s development.

On behalf of everyone connected with the Club, we would like to place on record our sincere thanks to Karl and his staff for their hard work and dedication. We wish Karl every success in the future.

The process of appointing a new Head Coach will begin immediately, and we will provide a further update to supporters in due course.

Fans make their feelings known with Karl Robinson sacked by Salford a week on from their playoff heartbreak…

@scullionONsport: Considering where Salford were when Karl Robinson took over a couple of years ago and where they are now, this looks like a very harsh decision. Feels a bit trigger happy.

@benhallidayCUFC: Wow! Salford City are a shambles arent they! Thought Robinson was doing a great job there! They may have money but they will never be able to buy class!!

@BroughtonM7: Wish the bloke all the best, easily our best manager in our efl period, closest gaffer we had to our glory days under Jonno and Bern

@allfootballco: Is this going to be another Graham Alexander moment for Salford? Only if they’d converted a couple of those 15 loses into draws they would have been celebrating promotion. Looks pretty harsh! #SCFC

@SirSebastian20: This lot have been chopping and their squad and managers ever since they’ve been in the football league. No wonder why they never go up! 😆

@EFLHarry: Shocked and disappointed by this decision from Salford. Watching the behind-the-scenes content on YouTube this year, Robinson was the absolute standout. The passion, the drive , you could genuinely see the players would run through brick walls for him. #SalfordCity #Ammies

@AGroundsss: Shocked by this, first real season Salford have got close. Who next and can they take Salford to the next level.

@SammyWe51667618: As a Salford fan Lee I’m absolutely disgusted with the board on this decision I think it’s a disgrace to think we had I highest ever finish and best chance of promotion and then just to sack Karl like that is just ridiculous.

@DanTakesOnFooty: Gary Neville at it again even though he sits on Sky and tells people not to sack managers and give them time. Joke of a football club and a joke of an ownership. Phil Neville will be coming in next I’m sure and “keep the jobs for the boys” metric going strong.

@Tyler7Smith: These lot dont deserve promotion. Not Robinsons biggest fan but he’s got them to a much better point that anyone else has with a lot less ‘star power’ than other managers were afforded

@edward_w97: When you’ve already got a reputation for harsh dismissals, it’s probably advisable not to get rid of the guy who has got you closer to League One than you’ve ever got before…

@AlanBiggs1: Makes you wonder when this club’s owners will set a course & stick to it. Karl Robinson is a good manager, no? Win rate of nearly 45% at Salford. Seemed to be on the right lines. He’ll get another decent job, no problem.

@sportingminute: Neville at it again. 😂 He consistently demonstrates he’s incapable of running a football club, yet has no problem sat there telling Man United what they should do.
