Fans have been left divided over a new video of Millwall players on a night out hours after the Championship final day heartbreak.
The footballers can be seen enjoying a night on the town hours after narrowly missing out on a playoff spot, and while they are just having a life outside their job within football, it still seems fans were unhappy with them having some fun, with some even questioning whether they were actually “devastated”.
The Lions came close to securing a spot in the top six, and were winning 3-1 against Blackburn on the final day of the season. However, they somehow fell asleep and capitulated in their 4-3 defeat to Rovers. This allowed Sunderland the last playoff place.
After the season ended, some of the team, including the likes of Duncan Watmore, Tom Bradshaw, Connal Truman, Murray Wallace, Zian Flemming, and Ryan Leonard according to the Daily Mail, went out for drinks and dinner before taking up karaoke to lift each other’s spirits with a rendition by John Denver of Take Me Home, Country Roads.
The fan who posted the video wrote: ‘They seem devastated’, before replying to criticism “to everyone having a go at me – this isn’t me saying they aren’t entitled to have a social life 😂 just a bit of a kick in the teeth to those that see it so soon after. just my opinion x”
Stewart Flaherty, a Sport Psychologist, says: “When you go out and enjoy yourself to take your mind off it (you will eventually), there won’t be thousands of people demanding you suffer more, for longer. That’s the difference.”

Speaking about Millwall’s result against Blackburn, boss Gary Rowett insisted his players were ‘devastated’ at falling short and said they would ‘detatch emotionally’ once the dust had settled.
‘All I said to the players is that sometimes in these moments you have to feel a bit of this pain and think about how you can be better,’ he said. ‘You have to use that as a little bit of fire and motivation to be better.
‘If you’re a player then you’re just devastated that you’ve not been able to take the next step. There are probably so many things going through your head about what we could have done differently or better.
‘In a couple of days time, when a few of the lads are sat on a beach somewhere, they may start to reflect a bit more and detach emotionally. At the moment everyone in the club is just so disappointed that we got so close but couldn’t manage to get it over the line.’
Dejected #Millwall players collapse on the pitch. Shocking second half performance ruined their season and the boos have rung out here at The Den. Extraordinary bottle job. #MillwallFC #EFL pic.twitter.com/TMqpVsxJrq

As mentioned, fans were left divided over a new video of Millwall players on a night out hours after the final day heartbreak…
@Westie_Scott: After that 45 minutes performance you go for a drink? Piss taking fuckers
@Jamie270: Normally I don’t care about players having lives but I’d be fuming if I was a Millwall fan. Been in the playoffs all season, lost 4-3 after winning 3-1 at HT and then going straight out on the piss 😅
@dballpne: The night after throwing away a playoff place in an unforgivable way. Jesus Christ. Feel sorry for Millwall fans.
@lee_omara83: Absolute disgusting no fucks given
@lmw19_: Some sort of joke 😂😂
@loumfc_: Fuck me, seasons been a failure and you’re out happy as Larry after the biggest bottling this club has seen 😂 also if they’re gonna go out at least large it fuck me, I’ve had more fun at funerals than it looks like them cunts are having.
@tylerpodmore: Not what I want to see at 9:52 ffs
@mfccharlie_: Bit distasteful really ain’t it
@TedDavies7: State of these bottle job cunts
@Ben_S1990: I have no issue with footballers having a drink and having a social life they’re human beings. But imagine waking up hungover after blowing a 3-1 lead yesterday, I’d be in hiding for weeks in despair not out on the karaoke 🤣
@DarthAlcoholic: I was fucking gutted yesterday. The players look like they’re having a great time. Says it all 😐 #MillwallFC
@SalfordAddick: I hate this about players nowadays play for the badge and be as gutted as the fans are
@dannymfc_: ye fair enough had a whole season of hard work especially flemming and bradders so they are allowed a social life
@block45lion: I actually have no problem with this most of the players on this night out have worked there bollocks off this season the villains of the piece aren’t there
@oliverstedman: It’s their end of season social. They deserve to enjoy themselves after 45 weeks of graft
@CRT17M: They will be, but it’s a job and they have to have a break and life too !! Hate this perception that players don’t care coz they continue with life 🙄
@Tomoneill84: If it was me, I’d be too embarrassed to go out. I’d want to go home, reflect on where we can improve as a team and then once everything settles down, take myself away. This is just begging for trouble.
@JanetGbemenow: It may be the last chance they get to go out together. They often have little say in where they go and some may well be moved on once the transfer window opens. Loaned players will certainly be returning to their clubs.
@livl_andiel: Get a grip – young lads that have a lot of pressure to deal with all season. To a lot of them its also just a job and they can’t help it if people take football far too seriously. Had a great season and some real talent in there to be positive about for next season.
@dsilvester_84: Looks flat as a pancake tbh like they are drowning their sorrows
@BL10CBL: Fuck sake they go all season probably hardly have a drink if at all so while altogether probably a pre-planned night out ahead of all going on their ways for the time they have off. Not ideal it being online perhaps but good luck go em they deserve it. Bigger teams below us
@jackomillwall: They are entitled to a piss up. do you want them to lock themselves away for 8 weeks?
@Karrantula: This whole narrative of “footballers can’t go out and have a good time because they let the fans down” is so so weird icl
@LukeGray1997: God forbid players have a social life. When you have a bad day at work I assume you never go out for a drink with your mates after and have a laugh?
@mitchconroy55: They’re a complete joke, unforgivable what they’ve done over the last 2 months
@Downtheden: They are gutted aint they
@LukeStallard1: They’re still human and after a bad day at work we all want to drown our sorrows to forget about it but having it plastered all over social media is incredibly stupid after yesterday
