Fans have been left in shock as Scunthorpe United issue a statement with a significant U-turn on the club’s future after initial worries.
The Iron announce that a deal has been agreed for the acquisition of the club by the local group headed by Simon Elliott and Ian Sharp.
On Wednesday, BBC Radio Humberside had reported that Scunthorpe United had been unable to pay their November salaries on schedule.
The club sent out the email to inform the workers that they had received the news. They also stated that they hoped to be able to pay the wages by Thursday. You can see more on that HERE.
Iron Trust: “The @IronTrust is most concerned and dismayed to learn that staff at @SUFCOfficial have still to be paid salary for November. We believe that at a “well run club” the priority should be to pay staff on time.
“Like other fans we are concerned that the sale of the club is lurching from one false dawn to another. We know that the proposed sale to a London group has fallen through again, but that there is a bid tabled by a local consortium headed by former director Simon Elliott.
“We urge the owners to end this saga and agree a speedy sale which is in the best interests of the club’s future, the staff and supporters. At the very least the owners owe fans an explanation of what is going on, especially as they expect fans to continue to support the club.”
They then said a few hours later: “IronTrust welcomes the news that @SUFCOfficial has reached a deal with the local.consortiu. to safeguard the future of the club. UTI”
After what has been a tough 2022 for Scunthorpe United it looks like the Irons have some good news.

CLUB STATEMENT:
Scunthorpe United can confirm that a deal has been agreed for the acquisition of the club by the local group headed by Simon Elliott and Ian Sharp.
The club will now work with them during the final due diligence and transition into their ownership over the coming weeks.
Peter Swann said: “We needed to ensure that the club wages for November were paid as soon as possible, which will happen later today or tomorrow thanks to the deal and ensure the long-term future of the football club with new investment.”
Simon and Ian are heading to Scunthorpe right now to finalise the details and prepare for the game on Saturday versus Notts County.

TAKEOVER STATEMENT:
We warmly welcome long-standing Scunthorpe United supporters Ian Sharp and Simon Elliott to the Football Club. Both have worked tirelessly to secure the future of the Iron and after many long hours have finally achieved their goal by agreeing a deal with Mr Swann.
I wish Peter and Karin Swann well, whatever the future holds. Their financial support over the last 10 years has been vital to sustain Scunthorpe United.
A positive step forward off the pitch now needs to be replicated on the pitch. We will be helping the coaching staff by identifying some new additions.
Our focus must be to climb the table and strengthen the squad.
Hopefully with your support, we can boost attendances and get fans back in numbers to watch the Iron. We need local businesses to get back on board and the good people of North Lincolnshire to step up and help us get back on track.
Let’s make the future bright, let’s look forward and not back, focus on the now and give everything for the club we love.
UTI
