Fans hurl punches as huge brawl erupts in stands at Sunday League match

Footage has done the round on social media, and it shows fans hurl punches as a huge brawl erupts in the stands at a Sunday League match.

Other supporters can be seen shoving each other during what was a game between Dolphin Kings FC and Chatham Town in June.

Some can be seen struggling to keep their balance as the fight in the stands grows more violent with others getting involved either for a scrap or to try and calm the situation down.

Players from both grassroots teams then leaped over the nearest barrier to try to stop the melee at the Kent Cup Final, the last game of the 2020/21 season involving grassroots teams from across the county.

As more players congregate to put an end to the clash, the officials then can be heard desperately blowing their whistles for some sort of distraction.

It is not clear why the fight started before then getting out of hand but it is understood the game had to be halted for a number of minutes in the second half.

Chatham Town Sundays later went on to beat Dolphin Kings FC 3-0 to win the cup with footage of the fight at the stadium posted on Twitter.

“What a day for these boys! Champions of Kent/ Shame it was tainted by some so called football fans that couldn’t hold their beer. Losing 3-0 and thought the best way to end it was to start attacking a small group of our fans,” the club said.

One person said: “Today at JWW. The ‘Kent Sunday Cup Final Variant’ is born. This is what happens when you let 01634s mingle with people from Thanet.”

Another said: “Disgusted with some people’s behaviour today at the Kent Cup Final.. ruined it for everyone else.. and yes I was supporting the losing team at the time too..

“No need for fighting and hope the officials I looked after medically from
@KentFA are ok!”

While one replied: “Scrapping in a Sunday league game. Good old tear up though”.

Chatham Town Sundays play in the Medway Messenger Sunday Football League Senior Section, while the Dolphins are in Miles & Barr Thanet Sunday Football League.

Kent Police confirmed that they were called to the “disturbance” on James Whatman Way at around 4:15pm last Sunday in Maidstone but no arrests have been made.

A spokesperson said: “Officers have been working with the club to establish the full circumstances and anyone with information that may assist is asked to call Kent Police on 01622 604100, quoting reference 20-0838.”

Kent FA said they are “aware of the allegations” and are currently investigating the situation that played.
