Fans hit out at Todd Cantwell for what he did against Birmingham

Fans chose to hit out at Norwich City’s Todd Cantwell for what he did against Birmingham City in Tuesday night’s Championship fixture.

Mario Vrancic came up with a 87th-minute winner for the Canaries at Carrow Road, to put them 7th in the table for now with more games in the division to be played on Wednesday.

Daniel Farke’s side were 1-0 up shortly after Adam Clayton was shown a second yellow card in the 86th minute.

Todd Cantwell returned to the starting lineup against Birmingham and the playmaker went to desperate lengths to try and get on the scoresheet.

He made it difficult for the Birmingham’s defence at various points of the match, however the 22 year old also fell to ground a fair few times, dramatically, in order to win something, though couldn’t fool the referee.

As can be seen in the video above, he clips his leg against a Blues player, before rolling about on the ground in the penalty area, was down as play continued, watched until the perfect goal-scoring opportunity, then sprung back up, though his effort went wide.

Fans hit out at Todd Cantwell for what he did against Birmingham, many dubbing him as the new Jack Grealish for diving too, see those tweets below…

What the managers said:

Norwich’s Daniel Farke: “It is never easy for relegated sides like us because our opponents are always up for the game and know a win will be a big result for them. They make it tough for us and Birmingham certainly did, defending really well with their 5-4-1 shape.

“Ten points from six games is a decent start and I am happy with that because as I said it is never easy for teams coming down to the Championship. There are a lot of positives to build on but we know we need to make more of all the chances we are creating. We are doing a lot of things very well at the moment but our finishing needs to improve.”

Birmingham’s Aitor Karanka: “I feel very sorry for my players after that. They are exhausted after putting in a lot of hard work and frustrated after seeing another big decision go against them. On Saturday it was the penalty and tonight it was the red card.

“I can’t criticise my players after that – in fact I am very proud of them. We had a number of players unavailable and had to go into the game with a new shape against a very good team who were in the Premier League last season. We defended very well and it was very disappointing to lose it in the end.”
