Macclesfield unveil new club crest voted by fans

Macclesfield have chosen to unveil a new club crest voted by fans ready for their new fresh start after the original club was wound up.

Macclesfield Town, who were relegated from League Two after amassing a hefty points deduction, will relaunch as Macclesfield FC after local businessman Robert Smethurst acquired the assets of the club.

Former footballer Robbie Savage will serve as the head of football at the rebuilt club at their current home Moss Rose.

Danny Whitaker will remain as manager of the new club, who aim to compete in the North West Counties Football League next season. The division already consists of Bury AFC and newly formed FC Isle of Man.

The Silkmen launched a poll via their Twitter social media page on Monday the 19th of October. It was voted by over 10,000 users.

Four options were put to supporters to vote on, the first being their current one but with ‘TOWN’ removed and ‘FC’ replacing it.

The second option was a new design based on the current, but with slightly different shade of blue and ‘SINCE 1874’ is replaced with ‘THE SILKMEN’.

The third option is again based on the current but instead of a circle shield, it’s unique (Arsenal/Burton like) shield. Same colours and wording placed differently.

The fourth and final option looks similar to the second option, but more of a Chelsea vibe you could say. ‘AGAINST ALL ODDS’ a tagline fans started liking over the last month, is at the bottom.

So what was the winning design? Robbie Savage was the man to take to his social media account and reveal the much anticipated outcome.

THE RESULT:
Logo A – 40.3%
Logo B – 14.1%
Logo C – 31.3%
Logo D – 14.2%

Savage revealed that the home kit will be royal blue, with white shorts and white socks.

The away kit will be going back to their roots, white shirt, black shorts and black socks.

Robbie adds that they have got a big kit manufacturer on board to make it, with an announcement coming shortly.

“This is an extremely exciting opportunity to rebuild a historic football club for Macclesfield and the surrounding areas and I want to ensure that we bring the footballing heartbeat back into the local community; combined with a firm financial business plan and with consideration for the fans,” Smethurst said in a statement.

“My vision over the coming months and years is to rebuild the club, pitch & stadium facilities and re-invest the income generated from that back into creating a first team and into the club overall.

“If we can move a new team into the North West Counties Football League next season, we’ll have achieved one of our main goals. Over the coming years, our main aim is to move up through the leagues.”
