Fans have taken to fume at referee Dean Whitestone’s decision to send off Daniel Jebbison as Wrexham draw 3-3 vs Sheffield United.
The Blades manager Paul Heckingbottom was perplexed at the call made on the 71st minute with Jebbison adjudged to have had a little kick out at Ben Tozer.
Stephen Kelly (Former Tottenham defender on BBC Radio 5 Live): “It’s unbelievable to watch.
“I initially thought it was a foul because there is a definite tug of the shirt from Tozer but then Jebbison swings around and throws his leg out.
“You just can’t do that. This could be huge!”
BBC Sport’s live blog wrote: “Got to be honest it looks harsh from what I’ve seen.”
The BBC commentary team for the game broadcasted on BBC One, also were left rather puzzled by the decision to hand out a red card.
BBC Sport pundit Mark Hughes on Jebbison’s red card: “It’s the interpretation of the fourth official. He’s got a little bit busy in there and wants to make a name for himself.”

It took just a few minutes into the first half to break the deadlock, and it was a great start for the visitors. Tommy Doyle whipped the ball into the near post and Oliver McBurnie went across his man and guides his header home.
A flurry of goals came in the second half, the 50th minute seeing Ben Tozer’s long throw hooked on by Thomas O’Connor and James Jones acrobatically turned it home. 1-1.
In the 61st minute, Sheffield United couldn’t deal with a near post corner with the ball bouncing off Billy Sharp and then being smashed home by Thomas O’Connor.
Shortly after, Wrexham couldn’t clear Billy Sharp’s cross and Oliver Norwood calmly finished into the bottom right corner at the second attempt.
Then came that controversially red card.
In the 86th minute, noise erupted at the packed out Racecourse Ground. It had to be him. Paul Mullin started and finished the move.
The striker collected Sam Dalby’s pass and then placed the ball underneath Blades goalkeeper Adam Davies.
Right at the end, Tommy Doyle took a corner on the right and John Egan finished low into the bottom corner. Looked like a couple of home defenders just switched off.

Wrexham striker Paul Mullin on BBC One: “Very disappointed. To concede from one of the last kicks of the game from a set-play is gutting.
“If we just hold on against 10 men then we are through.
“I thought we were the better team throughout the game, creating chances and looking dangerous on the break. We limited them to not many chances in open play.
“I’m so proud of everyone. We’ve worked so hard to get here. We came into the game thinking we could win and we had a gameplan. Unfortunately it hasn’t quite paid off but I think when the dust settles tomorrow we’ll be proud of it.”
As mentioned, fans took to fume at the decision to send off Daniel Jebbison as Wrexham knock out Sheffield United…
@Pete_Shillito: Have the BBC given up trying to find out why Daniel Jebbison was sent off?
@StuartBurton6: I hope Jebbisons sending off is appealed – the guy has hold of him and he just shrugs him off – then the guy tries to trip him – but Jebbison gets sent off – bizarre!!
@RichHartley78: We don’t deserve to win but honestly can any football fan justify that card? Laughable if referee seen that as nothing happened?
@floodywalker: The state of officiating is unbelievably bad, surely a complaint has to go in 🤷🤦
@nobby_26: Still trying to figure out why Jebbison has been sent off for Sheff United
@pjridders: There absolutely no way the 4th official gets involved to tell the ref send jebbison off if the games not live on bbc1. Mark Hughes called it right. Busy…Should have added another word.
@SnapskiKnee: Ref wants striking off. Disgraceful to send Jebbison off
@xFleXy_: Might be the worst red card I’ve seen in my 26 years on this planet
@sabrish29: Laughable red card there on Jebbison
@jcoleman22_: Still trying to find where Jebbison’s “Violent Conduct” was.
@S_2_H1985: Still looking for the violent conduct element of that footage
@afoster4321: Red card for that 😂😂 games gone
@EmilySteph2: What did Jebbison actually get sent off for? Some questionable decisions this weekend and that one seems to take number one spot?
@LPSimcox: Nothing from the dugout, nothing from the ref, Jebbison carries on as usual, Tozer kicks out but Jebbison gets sent off…
@gtors1: FA and it’s referees are a disgrace. Having seen what Liverpool-players got away with and what Jebbison at Sheffield United now was sent off for it is shockingly bad.
@KiayaCoys: What a match! Wrexham absolutely robbed
@TheWrexhamTalk: We played brilliantly and showed that it wasn’t a walk over. Time for the same in the replay 👊
@Grabs39: I’m a neutral but what’s with the refs watch? 7 added minutes and blew at 6:58 despite there having been a goal within the added time? There was at least another 30 seconds there.
@Grizzly_games15: So unlucky, Wrexham deserved to win, don’t know where the 7 minutes added came from
@Tim_Purcell: What a game. What an effort. What a team. What a town. What ever happens in the reply, we should be proud of them. They’ve stood up and been counted.
@greavsiepete: Everyone who started today needs to take a long hard look in the mirror. Wrexham deserved a hell of a lot more than that and certainly didn’t play like a team in the vanarama. A big get out of jail free card from egs. Need to sort things out and soon!
@RichHartley78: Well played Wrexham, great to see and deserved the win. Tough match, will be interesting to watch the replay
@Justin23_Rice: First of all, dreadful performance again but I am actually quite happy to go watch the replay, we should have too much at the lane for them. Now let’s get this takeover and embargo sorted. #sufc ⚔️
@AndrewSlaughte1: The two owners are really building something special at Wrexham! Brilliant game to watch, really impressed with Wrexham, without doubt the best team over the ninety minutes. Without doubt will be a football league club against next year. Fingers crossed for the replay.
@cabezy: Absolutely tremendous performance. Whole of Wales be proud of that performance. Gutting just missed out on seeing the game off! Still heads high, holding a top top championship side to a 3-3 draw! Da Iawn Wrecsam! 👏🏻🏴
@RWBielsa: You took a Championship team to a replay when they played a strong squad. Nevermind the pan you should of had & also 7 mins added on is outrageous. Go to Bramall Lane & go through.
