Fans demand Premier League follows Italian FA’s ESL punishment plans

Fans demand that the English FA and the Premier League follows the Italian FA’s bold stance in ESL punishment plans, and it’s quite a biggy.

AC Milan and Juventus are currently still refusing to give up on the chances of the European Super League with the duo yet to pull out of the competition, alongside Barcelona and Real Madrid.

This is despite all six English clubs, Atletico Madrid, and Inter Milan withdrew following backlash from pretty much everyone in England.

Juventus chairman Andrea Agnelli, one of the ringleaders, has even said that although he still believes in the Super League, there is no way that it can currently go ahead. Especially with teams quitting before it’s even got started.

However, despite all this the duo are still hanging around in it, and it could have some pretty big repercussions if they continue to ignore national boards, UEFA, and FIFA.

The president of the Italian Football Federation this week warned the duo that anyone continuing to try and join a competition that isn’t authorised by the relevant organising bodies will be kicked out of competitions.

“As for the anti-Super League rule, whoever is considering joining a competition which is not authorised by UEFA, FIFA and FIGC will lose their membership,” Gabriele Gravina said.

“Anyone who has interpreted the Super League as an act of simple weakness on the part of some companies experiencing economic difficulties, is wrong.

“At the moment we have no news of who stayed and who left the Super League. This rule will be included in the national licenses and then it will be embedded in the sports justice code.

“If, by the deadline for applications for national championships, a team joins other championships of a private nature, they are out [of FIGC competitions].”

Italian FA approves the amendment to licensing statute whereby anyone joining a private league not recognised by UEFA, FIFA and the Italian FA would forfeit their place in domestic competition.

It’s not the first time we’ve seen a big club forced to drop down a league, as Juventus have a bit of history with a similar situation, being relegated to Serie B following the Calciopoli match fixing scandal in the mid-2000s.

However, this is a much more serious case, as both they and AC Milan would be kicked out of the entire football pyramid and European competitions.

Perez told Spanish radio El Larguero that the Super League is “not dead”.

“We are going to keep working,” he said. “We are looking for ways of getting this done. It would be a shame not to get it done.”

What did the Italian clubs say about the Super League?

Last Wednesday, Inter withdrew and said: “FC Internazionale Milano confirms that the Club is no longer part of the Super League project. Our commitment with all stakeholders to improve the football industry will never change.

Milan appeared to distance themselves from the project with a statement which read: “We accepted the invitation to participate in the Super League project with the genuine intention to deliver the best possible European competition for football fans around the world and in the best interest of the club and our own fans.

“However, the voices and the concerns of fans around the world have clearly been expressed about the Super League, and AC Milan must be sensitive to the voice of those who love this wonderful sport.”

Juventus, meanwhile, seemed to acknowledge the Super League was not viable in its current state: “In this context, while Juventus remains convinced of the soundness of the project’s sport, commercial and legal premises, it believes that at present there are limited chances that the project be completed in the form originally conceived.”

Leeds owner Andrea Radrizzani has called on the Premier League to ‘lead the way’ in dealing with the rebel English European Super League clubs following the collapse of the ‘disappointing’ breakaway plans.

He told Jim White on talkSPORT: “It’s important to have transparent communication between the stakeholder and let the Premier League to lead a process to keep the league united among all the clubs and have a productive conversation to improve the relationship and the game over the time.

“The Premier League needs to lead the way.”

Asked if he was horrified by the plans, he said: “I expressed my disappointment [with the Super League] last week.

“As I said, it’s the league representatives to deal with it.

“I’m more happy to enjoy my team,” added the Leeds chief.

“We played against City, Liverpool and United and got five points, so that’s my focus at the moment.”

Radrizzani had already spoken out against the proposals to make vehemently clear his opposition to any such league.

“[It’s] absolutely against the sporting spirit, the dream of millions of fans to conquer the championships on the field, with planning, vision, work,” he said.

“[It] kills dreams of club players and fans. The teams are fans and WE are the keepers of the club.”

Would this be fair retribution? Is it something the Football Association and Premier League should be threatening English clubs with?

Well as mentioned, fans demand that the Premier League follows Italian FA’s ESL punishment plans, others had something else to say…

@GlenH84: @lufc @SkySportsPL @andrearadri @GNev2 @premierleague

@bethgabriel_: Over to you PL…

@bigmacca199: Hope the PL follow suit.

@CherylSwanick: Just this

@GoonerAndGunner: Mafia aren’t having it.

@GrahamKirk5: People are so keen to talk about points deductions, bans etc but there is hardly any comment about the most obvious first thing to do. Get it written into the laws that if it happens again you are kicked out the PL. Sad that it’s just opposition fans looking to gain an advantage.

@bluecarper: Over to the Premier League…

@CS_UTV: Should imagine everyone will follow suit

@cpfctom_: Take note @premierleague

@RyanProtano: Shouldn’t juve then be banned? They’re still committed and haven’t pulled out

@StevenM29908044: Exactly as it should be, if clubs are going to break away then they’d better have the guts to see it through or get left out in the cold.

@AlexanderSwfc: Excellent, now let’s hope all other leagues follow Serie A.

@TheCapt90267200: So the Italian Football Federation has passed a rule that any Team from the Italian Leagues will not be able to play in Seria A if they ever join a European Super League in the future , Now lets hear from the FA! At least its a start , but i fear that none will be punished

@liamb0117: Perfect.

@EFCMatt1: @premierleague 👍🏻

@pmbtrfc1: FA and Premier League take note!!

@cdurant92: Good for them. About time this happens. @premierleague now it’s your turn
