Fans debate who they want as Middlesbrough identify three main candidates for the manager’s job

Fans debate who they want as Middlesbrough identify three main candidates for the manager’s job, according to the Northern Echo.

Middlesbrough are narrowing their search for a new head coach to replace Michael Carrick, with Rob Edwards, Steve Cooper, and Danny Rohl as the top candidates.

The club has ruled out Steven Gerrard, Marti Cifuentes, and Gary O’Neil. Final interviews are set for the coming days, with an appointment expected by the end of this week or early next week, allowing the new coach time to prepare before pre-season training.

Rob Edwards previously led Luton Town to Championship promotion in 2022-23 and managed a competitive Premier League campaign, though relegated. Left Luton in January after struggles in the Championship. Also on Bristol City’s radar.

Steve Cooper guided Nottingham Forest to promotion in 2021-22 and secured Premier League survival, but was sacked by Forest and later Leicester after poor starts. Known for dynamic, attacking football.

Danny Rohl, kept Sheffield Wednesday in the Championship despite financial issues. Praised for his work, but his £5m compensation clause may be negotiable due to Wednesday’s financial troubles. Also linked with Wolfsburg.

Fans debate who they want as Middlesbrough identify three main candidates for the manager’s job…

@Tomoneill84: Edwards has had one good season as a manager. Will always back our manager but how can someone who has had one good season, been sacked by Watford and had back to back relegations be our top target. He doesn’t even play nice football to excite the fans.

@chrisrobson13: Realistically it’s been Edwards’ job ever since it became available

@Strickland__Ben: I don’t know why I expected us to do something fun. There’s one final chance to do so, appoint Röhl

@Danielw26738836: Would be fairly happy with Cooper, gutted with Edward’s and buzzing with Rohl! Blatantly going to be Edward’s isn’t it

@_TY_97: I will say considering we’ve searched far and wide and had “excellent” left field candidates, does feel typical we’ve ended up with the 3 most obvious candidates as Gibson hates Europeans #boro

@wallsendredicko: Anyone else find it strange that after we were told yesterday the club were looking at some great candidates from abroad we get the same old names today as the shortlist? I wonder if a curve ball is coming and a surprise announcement 🤔

@wallsendredicko: I would go Edwards as he fits our profile and knows Kieran Scott. Rohl would be a decent appointment he’s a good young manager.Cooper is the logical choice after Forest but that doesn’t excite me and he doesn’t have anything to prove so might get comfortable like past mangers.

@boroboy151: Rohl wants Bundesliga; Cooper wants PL or abroad; when does Edward’s start?

@the_boro_way: It’s going to be Edwards always was, Scott knows him and it’s the safe option

@_TY_97: It’s gonna be Edwards isn’t it, while I don’t mind him feels a tad underwhelming #boro

@JoeScottMFC: So It’s Either Cooper, Edwards or Röhl Next For The #Boro Hot Seat By The Looks Of It. #UTB

@callumj67__: If Rob Edwards gets it there’ll be a season ticket up for grabs in 62 if anyone’s after one

@djstormo: If it is Edwards it will not be a exciting appointment but I will still get behind him and and the team

@Sm0ggs: Let’s get the Röhlacoaster moving pls lads

@benoliver000: It’s going to be Edwards, but I am on my KNEES for Rohl 🙏🏻

@ellismfc_: Danny Danny Rohhhlll

@karis_noble: Everything is screaming it’ll be Edwards but come on Boro, sign Röhl and we will be bouncing

@CarlDraper98:
Rohl
Edwards
Cooper (only because he wants to stay with UEFA)
In That order

@DannyGuitar91: Rohl, Cooper, Edwards. Whoever it is gets my backing and deserves a chance.

@kristianlamb1: Danny Rohl 🙏

@joe99090812: Rohl, cooper, edwards in that order

@ThomasPeacock_: Rohl’s name is getting floated so the club can say they “tried” it’s between cooper and edwards and let’s be honest it’s edwards

@the_boro_way: We’ve done the classic PR claiming having candidates from abroad and everything, just to end up with Rob Edwards, it’s not awful but if we’re being honest it just doesn’t seem much better then Michael Carrick

@86Willo: Got to be Röhl and @Boro should do everything possible to make it happen

@Steptoesyard: 1. Cooper 2. Rohl 3. Edwards

@DailyBoro: Danny Rohl is easily the best investment this club can make. £2m/£4m for one of the brightest rising stars in football management, a rare opportunity we must take whilst it’s there for us. As close to the perfect fit as we’re going to find. 🔴⚽️ #Boro

@boxyboro: Stinks of Edwards, Gibson for the cheap option again

@JoelHarrison28: Pay whatever Wednesday want now Gibbo #Boro
