‘FakePlayer’ used to fill positions in Bolton’s team in FIFA 20’s Beta

Whilst League One side Bolton Wanderers were in financial trouble, they didn’t have enough senior players to fill out their squad.

In real life, they’ve been forced to field their youth players, at one point though they had to postpone a fixture due to a concern for their welfare.

In the FIFA 20 beta, they’ve used fakes, literally and it became a huge talking point on social media with help from YouTuber Thogden.

At the time before the takeover was complete, they had no choice but to play seven players, as well as all the substitutes who were born in this century.

They managed to surprise the nation by holding Coventry City to a goalless draw with the squad an average age of just 19.

After the game, now ex-manager Phil Parkinson told Laurence Bassini to ‘leave Bolton Wanderers alone’.

He said: “It has gone on for too long,” added Parkinson. “It can’t be this week, next week, it’s got to be now.

“Mr Bassini can you just leave this great club alone and let everyone get on with helping rebuild this club back again.

“I can’t fathom it out and we just don’t need it.

“The supporters have done their bit. They came down in their numbers to Wycombe and they queued up in the rain on Friday to buy tickets for this game.

“Now, it is up to the people behind the scenes to sort this out and get it back going again.

“If this was a TV drama and some of the things that have happened, people would stop watching it because they would say it was too unbelievable; it was too far-fetched.

“That’s how ridiculous some of the situations have been, none more so than Thursday.”

On his team’s performance, he added: “We said before the game we wanted the supporters to be driving away from the ground talking about our young players, collectively and individually. And they will have done that.”

Coventry had three goals disallowed for offside by referee James Adcock and his officials.

“The gods were with us but I think the club deserved that.”

After that, they postponed the league fixture against Doncaster Rovers, then the takeover with Football Ventures was completed. Before that, Bury’s deadline passed and they were kicked out of the EFL as they weren’t satisfied with proof of being financially secure to continue with the season.

When seeing ‘Fake Player’ fill the gaps in Bolton Wanderers’ squad on FIFA 20 Beta, fans took to give their amused reaction with many excite to play with or against the side on the console – see what they tweeted on the next page.
