FA Vase Fifth Round draw revealed

The FA Vase Fifth Round draw has been revealed ahead of the Fourth Round matches, which are played on the 17th of April 2021.

Sixteen fourth round ties are set to take place this weekend and the remaining clubs go into the fixtures knowing who they could potentially face in the next stage.

Northern League outfit Hebburn Town, who are the current favourites and 2020 Vase finalists will play host to either Congleton Town or Malvern Town if they can knock out Liversedge on Saturday afternoon.

Plymouth Parkway, who got as far as the quarter-finals last season, will take on Clevedon Town on Saturday with the winners now playing either Lancing or Flackwell Heath.

Sutton Common Rovers also have a home tie if they can beat Hadley on Saturday as they face the winners of the last-32 tie between Fakenham Town and Binfield.

We also could see a very tasty meeting of two Northern League clubs as Shildon will face West Auckland Town should they come through their respective ties against Warrington Rylands and North Ferriby.

The draw in full:

1 Hebburn Town or Liversedge v Congleton Town or Malvern Town
2 Shildon or Warrington Rylands v North Ferriby or West Auckland Town
3 Stourport Swifts or Walsall Wood v Anstey Nomads or Wellingborough Town
4 Mulbarton Wanderers or Hanworth Villa v Long Eaton United or Westfields
5 Cobham v Leighton Town or Walton & Hersham
6 Sutton Common Rovers or Hadley v Fakenham Town or Binfield
7 Bridgwater Town or Tavistock v United Services Portsmouth or Christchurch
8 Plymouth Parkway or Clevedon Town v Lancing or Flackwell Heath

Winning clubs will claim £2,250 from the competition prize fund with losing clubs awarded £725.

The remaining Third Round games took place on Saturday and we did get to see yet more upsets produced, whether in normal time or via penalties.

North Ferriby of Level 10 (Northern Counties East League Division One), hosted and dumped out Seaham Red Star from Level 9 (Northern League Division One).

The only goal of the game came from some absolutely fantastic work produced by Danny East to get Joel Shortland in who finishes beautifully under the keepers legs with practically the last kick of the game.

Another team to cause an upset was Combined Counties League Division One outfit Walton & Hersham (Level 10), beating Guildford City of the Combined Counties League Premier Division (Level 9).

Guildford went one up after just nine minutes via Andre Smith, before the club’s keeper Stuart Norman denied a Walton & Hersham attacker from the spot on the 31st minute, keeping onto their lead.

1-0 became 1-1 on the 58th minute, when a great was played ball in from Harry Mills, then tapped in from a yard out by Sean McCormack.

The only way to solve this was a penalty shootout, with Walton & Hersham coming out on top, improves from their early spot kick in the game. The underdogs won 4-2, causing scenes among the squad and staff.

Other results from the weekend saw Binfield play out as 4-1 winners away to Deal Town, whilst Plymouth Parkway played out a 5-2 victory against Fareham Town at Devon FA.

Fans reacted as the FA Vase Fifth Round draw was revealed…

@mrcrh11: 2 northern league teams been paired against each other in the latter rounds, that barely happens ha ha

@Laffite261: As highly as I think of Hebburn, I hope we are still referring to them just as “2020 finalists” in a months time. I have zero divided loyalties. #connyarmy

@Osk86 (on Shildon’s Twitter): Shock! 🙄

@KeithGraydon (on Shildon’s Twitter): Great draw that you have to beat the best to win it bud ☘️

@WendyJBrown65: Come on you Blues @RylandsFC 💙

@PhotographyCale: Looks like some long trips ahead for a few teams at least

@RiSomerville (on North Ferriby): If we face Warrington, our journey to knock out the whole of the NWCFL will continue

@JohnJws1950: Just wondering what binfield or flackwell heath have to do to get a home tie
