FA Trophy Semi Final Draw

The FA Trophy Semi Final Draw was made live on talkSPORT2 on Monday afternoon following the Quarter Final fixtures at the weekend.

Unlike in previous seasons, the ties will take place over one leg on the 27th of march, this is due to the pandemic.

Hornchurch caused the biggest shock of the previous round if you like, knocking out league above Darlington to go within touching distance of getting to Wembley.

The lowest ranked club left in the competition started strongly and went ahead on the 26th minute, taking advantage on Darlington giving the ball away sloppily in midfield.

Erico Sousa’s pass went straight to Remi Sutton, and burst forward, exchanging passes before breaking into the penalty area and setting up Liam Nash to tap home.

Darlington steadily grew into the tie, finishing the half promisingly and Sousa made amends in first-half added time, firing across the keeper and into the net after an Adam Campbell pass.

Eight minutes into the second half, Hornhurch regained their lead, and it came after a penalty conceded by Sol Brynn, who was making his debut.

Michael Liddle gave the ball away with the goalkeeper fouling Liam Nash and was unable to keep out Higgins’ spot-kick.

Darlington were unable to cause any trouble for Urchins goalkeeper Joseph Wright with numerous shots blocked.

With the Quakers’ hopes disminishing, Will Hatfield was harshly dismissed with five minutes to go.

He collided with Rickie Hayles on the edge of Horncurch’s penalty area, and referee Martin Woods immediately brandished a red card with no way back for Darlo.

There was a surprise with National League leaders Torquay United collapsing under the pressure, suffered a 1-0 defeat at Woking whilst Aldershot were knocked out by a team from a league below.
