FA Trophy and FA Vase 2022 finalists confirmed after semi final ties

The FA Trophy and FA Vase 2022 finalists have been confirmed with all four of Saturday afternoon’s semi final ties played out.

Wrexham played Stockport County in the earlier kick off in what was a tight contest between the two sides eyeing up a place at Wembley.

It was 0-0 up until injury time of the second half when Paul Mullin scored twice to overcame the National League leaders to reach the FA Trophy final.

Wrexham knew they had to perform, not just in front of a packed out crowd but also with Hollywood co-owner Ryan Reynolds watching on inside the ground, Mullin securing victory and a trip to England’s national stadium with two goals in added time.

Wrexham manager Phil Parkinson said: “There was a bit of edginess in the first half and some uncharacteristic errors from both sides, but there was a lot at stake.

“But I thought we grew into the game and a couple of really good chances to take the lead and didn’t take them.

“But with Mulls on the pitch you always believe that you’re going to get a goal.”

Stockport boss Dave Challinor said: “Of course it’s hard to take.”

“It was edging towards penalties but a moment of real quality from Paul Mullin has won the game.”

“Games against other good teams are decided by moments. We have to take our chances, but it was a close game.

“We know where we’re at. We have a really motivated group of players – really motivated to finish where we currently are in the table.”

“We have to be right at it, and if we’re not, this league can bite you. I’m comfortable with where we are.”

The 2013 FA Trophy winners will face Bromley in the final on the 22nd of May after the Ravens knocked out York City having gone into half time one behind to the National League North opponents.

Four minutes in, the Minstermen were ahead, a corner came in and it was headed out as far as Kurt Willoughby who smashed in with his left foot.

Michael Cheek got Bromley back in the game on the 60th minute, Cheek was played through on the right of the box and placed his finish beneath Jameson and into the back of the net.

He was on hand for Bromley’s second with 10 minutes remaining, when a cross from the left byline to the back post met Cheek who made no mistake with a header into the bottom corner.

James Alabi sealed the win for Bromley in stoppage time, slotting through and was very fortunate as his deflected strike nestled into the top corner.

Meanwhile in the FA Vase, Littlehampton Town were the first to finish of the two semi final ties, thrashing Loughborough Students 4-0 in front of 3,142 fans.

George Gaskin put the hosts ahead within 30 seconds of kick off before Jordan Clark doubled their lead with the header.

Two minutes later, Students hit the bar, and then the ball was in the Students net before being ruled offside.

Shay Wiggans made it 3-0 on 56 minutes, and with around 10 minutes remaining, a great run from Dion Jarvis saw the ball come to George Gaskin and he made it four.

Littlehampton Town will play Newport Pagnell Town in the FA Vase final as the latter won on penalties against Hamworthy United.

A strike from Mo Ahmed as the first half was coming to an end was cancelled out by a fine Cam Munn finish, but no more goals could be found in a pulsating 1-1 draw that went to spot kicks.

Newport Pagnell goalkeeper Martin Conway came off as the hero after making three saves and scoring as his side won 6-5, causing jubilant scenes on the pitch.

Fans legged onto it, but as many celebrating, some of the Newport Pagnell fans reportedly turned the atmosphere into a needless nasty one by taunting the Hamworthy supporters.

“I cannot believe what’s going on,” said the goalkeeper afterwards. “I trust myself, do my homework and do my research for penalties, but we deserved that. We had a bit of a stumble after they scored, with some sloppy defensive play, but as soon as it got to penalties, I backed myself all day long.

“I said I’d take whatever penalty they wanted me to, I backed myself and it showed. The boys had full faith in me too.

“We’re just so happy to be going to Wembley. My whole family is here, Newport Pagnell will be moving to Wembley for May, and maybe even more – the whole of MK! It will be special.

“The fans have carried us through today. We had a tough spell, it does happen, and we had to defend well. We’ve done it all year, and in one-off games, we are as good as anyone.”
