FA Cup Second Round tie postponed due to late investigation into Forest Green Rovers

An FA Cup Second Round tie due to take place at Blackpool has been postponed due to late investigation into opponents Forest Green Rovers.

The Tangerines went through to the second round with a 2-0 win against National League side Bromley, while their opponents Forest Green needed a replay to knock National League North club Scarborough Athletic out of the competition, drawing 1-1 initially before winning 5-2 in the replay.

The fixture between Blackpool and Forest Green had been set to take at Bloomfield Road on Saturday afternoon (3pm kick off).

But has been postponed less than 24 hours before getting underway due to an FA investigation with fans already making the trip with hotels booked.

Forest Green said in a statement via their official website: “Forest Green Rovers are aware of an FA investigation, meaning our FA Cup tie against Blackpool tomorrow is postponed.

“We will comply with the FA in their investigation and will provide a full update to supporters in the coming days once the investigation is complete.

“Forest Green Rovers apologises to both FGR and Blackpool fans who planned to attend tomorrow’s fixture.”

Blackpool meanwhile said: “The Club can confirm Saturday’s FA Cup second round tie at home to Forest Green Rovers has been postponed.

“This decision has been made by the FA due to an investigation in relation to a matter involving Forest Green Rovers.

“Blackpool Football Club would like to apologise to supporters for the inconvenience this has caused and is disappointed to be informed of this news at such short notice.

“Further details on the outcome of the investigation will be announced in due course.”

FA STATEMENT:

We are investigating a matter in relation to Forest Green Rovers’ involvement in the Emirates FA Cup, relating to the eligibility of a player used by Forest Green Rovers in the first round.

As a result, Forest Green Rovers’ second-round fixture away at Blackpool FC, which was scheduled for Saturday 2 December, has been postponed.

This matter is subject to an ongoing investigation and we will provide a further update in due course.

Meanwhile a week ago, the FA confirmed Barnsley had been kicked out of the FA Cup with Horsham reinstated for the Second Round where they’ll play Sutton United.

The League One outfit were removed from the 2023/24 season’s FA Cup following an administrative error’ regarding the eligibility of a player.

Barnsley have since apologised to their supporters in a statement, saying an internal investigation has been conducted after unintentional mistake.
