Experienced English footballer makes 51st move of his playing career age 44

This is getting bonkers now, experienced English footballer Jefferson Louis makes the 51st move of his playing career age 44.

Yep, the journeyman is still going strong. He started his career back in 1996, and still feels as though he has one more season left in him, while also taking up a role in coaching.

In a football career that has spanned 27 years, Louis has played for an astonishing 43 clubs, (we think?!) as well as the national team of Dominica.

BEACONSFIELD STATEMENT:

We are delighted to announce the permanent signing of Jefferson Louis from Slough Town who joins the club in a player/coach role.

The vastly experienced forward has already played 5 times for the Rams this season, scoring 2 goals, and his experience and physical presence has been a huge asset to the team.

On the training ground Jeff’s focus will be on working with the other forwards at the club, giving them the benefit of his experience, and he will come straight back in to the squad for this weekend’s FA Trophy fixture against Ashford United.

SLOUGH STATEMENT:

Jefferson Louis has decided to leave the club to pursue an opportunity as player/coach at Beaconsfield Town.

He joined the club in June as performance coach, leading much of the physical activity in training and on match days, including the warmups, activation work and advising on post-match recovery and nutrition. He also made five appearances for the club, including three last season.

Manager Jon Underwood said via www.sloughtownfc.net: “Jeff is a fantastic character, a real winner and has already had a major influence on our dressing room when he’s been with us.

I am extremely grateful to Slough manager Scott Davies who has made this process very easy and straightforward and being a good friend of Jeff’s he has allowed this to happen to give him a chance to get the regular football that he still craves.”

Manager Scott Davies commented:

β€œJeff will be moving over to Beaconsfield as a player/coach. Having recently been on dual registration with Jon Underwood, he has seen the value of what Jeff brings to the pitch and the changing room.

β€œJeff came in as our performance coach but then became an option for us off the bench from time to time. Having performed so well in pre-season, it made sense to give him a squad number as he offers something different to what we had. With George, Nathan, and Tom, and Mickel on his way back to fitness, Jeff departs with our best wishes.

β€œAt 44 years old, Jeff knows that game time with us will be limited and having played a few matches recently for Beaconsfield, he feels as though he wants to play on a more consistent basis for one more season.

β€œJeff has been huge for us around the club since the beginning of July and we’ll miss the energy he adds to both the management team and the squad, but we agreed that it fits well for him and his family which is most important.

β€œGo well J-Lo!”

In 2016, Sky Sports Soccer Saturday had a special feature on then Oxford City player Jefferson Louis, and it’s worth a watch…

There was plenty of reaction on Twitter as the experienced English footballer makes the 51st move of his playing career age 44…

@hraarmstrong: Club number 48363738 for Jefferson Louis #oufc

@scottdavies1988: Gutted to be losing my mate but will never stand in his way of doing what’s best for him. He thought he could hang the boots up but his desire to carry on playing at 44 years old has taken over… Thanks for your help this season J-Lo πŸ‘ŠπŸΌπŸ’™ @jlouislee9

@JonUnders: So pleased to have @jlouislee9 with us permanently now as a player and as part of the coaching staff too. A great addition to our dressing room! Extremely grateful to @scottdavies1988 for his support in making this happen ⚽️🐏

@GlenSTFC: I’m hoping we got a decent fee for J-lo…

@Iannic: Do permanent and Jefferson ever go together?!
