Experienced English footballer makes 49th move of his playing career aged 43

An experienced English footballer makes his 49th move of his playing career aged 43, and it’s causing plenty of talk on social media.

Forward Jefferson Louis, who is still going strong it would seem, has signed a deal to join Southern League Division One Central outfit Thame United.

Oxford Mail report that has represented 41 clubs in a remarkable playing career, and joins up with the Red Kites after leaving Risborough Rangers, and prior to that, North Leigh in the summer .

The journeyman, whose previous clubs also include Oxford City and Banbury United, first played for Thame in 1998, and then had a second stint in 2001.

He goes straight into the Thame United squad for their Southern League Central Division fixture at home to Biggleswade Town on Tuesday.

Thame currently sit 19th out of 20 teams in their division, picking up 7 points from 11 games played.

Millers manager Eddie Odhiambo paid tribute to Louis, who joined last October but departs due to ‘work commitments’.

He told North Leigh’s website: “Jeff entered another chapter in his football story by playing a significant role in the club’s promotion campaign.

“His two winning goals in the play-off final are etched into the club’s history.

“Even more prominent though, is the lasting imprint Jeff will have on his teammates.

“The boys have benefitted from, and added to Jeff’s experience.

“I personally wish him all the best going forward. He has too much to offer for North Leigh to be his last club as a player, and so much to offer beyond playing to younger players and clubs.

“Well done and a huge thank you to a certified legend.”

From Banbury United to Brackley Town, Lincoln City to Lowestoft, and Weymouth to Wrexham, it’s fair to say Jefferson Louis has been around the block.

He remains a tall and powerful striker, who has adapted his game superbly to remain a handful for opponents.

Having spend a few years gracing the non league scene, it wasn’t until 2002 that he made his entrance into the Football League, earning his debut at our near neighbours Oxford United.

He made 55 appearances in yellow and will especially be fondly remember by U’s fans for scoring their winner in a televised FA Cup Second Round clash against fierce rivals Swindon Town in 2002.

He was then captured naked live on television, joyously celebrating in the changing rooms as the U’s draw in the next round paired them with Arsenal, the team he supported as a boy.

Twitter users have given their reaction and throwbacks as the experienced English footballer makes his 49th move of his playing career aged 43…
