Ex-Millwall, QPR, Yeovil player speaks after being arrested for alleged aggravated battery

Ex-Millwall, QPR, Yeovil player Marc Bircham speaks after being arrested for alleged aggravated battery in Florida this week.

The 42-year-old was apprehended in the early hours of Friday by police over an alleged incident which involved a deadly weapon.

A report by the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office listed that Bircham’s bail at $10,000 and the Sheriff’s Office’s Subject Charge Report describes the offence as “BATTERY; AGG (DEADLY WPN/GREAT BODILY HARM)”.

Bircham tweeted: “What to thank everyone for the love and support ive received off them all, it means so much. As you know legally I can’t say much but think this covers it perfectly.”

If Bircham was allegedly carrying a weapon, he could face a prison sentence of up to 15 years for a first-time offender and a $10,000 fine with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon which is classed as a second degree felony.

The former EFL defender was appointed as the technical director of the Bahamas Football Association in March this year.

Bircham is in charge of the men’s, women’s and youth teams, as well as a centre of excellence.

His first club was Millwall in 1996 before joining Queens Park Rangers in 2002, where he went on to make over 150 appearances.

He finished his career at Huish Park before heading back to his old club QPR but as a coach in 2009. He also finished his international playing career at 17 appearances for Canada.
