Every word of heated argument as Graeme Souness RAGES with Roy Keane live on ITV

In this article, we check out every word of a heated argument as Graeme Souness RAGES with Roy Keane live on ITV on Tuesday.

Souness and Keane’s half-time analysis during Argentina’s World Cup opener really got everyone talking, as the pair failed to agree on a VAR decision.

Saudi Arabia went on to shock the world with a win in the opening Group C match, but the South Americans were awarded a penalty in the 10th minute when a VAR review adjudged Saudi defender Saud Abdulhamid to have brought down Leandro Paredes on the box.

Lionel Messi tucked away the spot kick, and when the decision was discussed at half-time by ITV Sport, Souness and Keane clearly had different views, leading to clear friction and some awkwardness.

Laura Woods: Don’t make eye contact with Roy, don’t do it.
Joe Cole: I think it was a penalty.
Graeme Souness: I thought we moved on from that.
Roy Keane: We’re going to see a record number of penalties at this World Cup, record number. That’s not a penalty.
GS: The ball has come in, he’s not looking at the ball. The directive from the referee is that’s a penalty, we have to accept that’s a penalty. We’ve seen a different Argentina today, it’s not the Argentina I expected to see, they don’t seem too intent on dominating the ball. I just feel Argentina have another gear to go into.
RK: Go ahead, go ahead.
GS: You learn a lot more if you listen than talk all the time.
RK: Go ahead.
GS: Let someone else speak.
RK: That’s not a penalty.
GS: I’ve heard you say it 10 times. Do you want to say it again?
RK: That’s my opinion, that’s why I’m here. I’m here to give my opinion, that’s a penalty. I’m here to give my opinion that’s not a penalty
GS: Their interpretation, the new laws…
RK: That’s not a penalty
GS: Their interpretation…
RK: Well what are we here for? I’m here to give my opinion.
GS: This is not about our opinions, it’s about the laws of the game.
RK: Well I’m here to give my opinion. That’s not a penalty.
GS: This is not about opinion, that’s a fact, the guy wasn’t looking at the ball.
RK: I heard exactly what she said. It’s going to encourage diving.
GS: Roy, you’re not listening to what Laura is saying. The directive from referees…
RK: No, no, no. All this will do is encourage diving. He’s dragging him down, he’s dragging him down!

Graeme Souness on penalty: He’s not watching the ball, Laura. He doesn’t know where the ball is, he’s only interested in the Argentinian player, he doesn’t know when it’s been kicked, he’s not watching and that is a penalty.
Roy Keane on penalty: I don’t think it’s been great. Argentina had a good start but to me looked like they were going through the motions, I don’t think it was a penalty, Saudi Arabia are doing well to be fair to them, they’re hanging in there, playing a high line – obviously a dangerous game to play. They got lucky once or twice, they need to do better on set-pieces but overall disappointed with Argentina, need to see more, going through the motions a bit.

After the game, Roy Keane was also praised for giving his thoughts on the World Cup being held in Qatar.

He said: “The World Cup shouldn’t be here, you’ve got a country and the way they treat migrant workers, gay people. We’re on about spreading the game but dismissing human rights, it’s not right. It shouldn’t be here.”

Fans reacted to every word of the heated argument as Graeme Souness RAGES with Roy Keane live on ITV…

@HLTCO: I would pay good money to see Roy Keane scrap Graeme Souness.

@TomStirk1992: Souness destroys him

@michaelglasper : Roy Keane and Graeme Souness having an argument before 11am on a Tuesday morning is sending very strong Wetherspoons vibes.

@GeorgeLloyd1992: Whoever at itv decided to put Keane and Souness in the studio together deserves a raise

@racingblogger: Graeme Souness and Roy Keane going at it like a pair of 15-year-olds, absolutely brilliant, shut up Roy, no you shut up Graeme! 😂

@stevecurry1970: Much as I dislike him Souness a proper hard man would still smash Keane all over the shop

@NorthEastAle: How is Souness employed? He is an arrogant bully and hypocrite

@neilshippers: Souness really doesn’t understand the new directive.. Just not looking at the ball doesn’t make it a penalty 🤦🏼‍♂️

@thomasritchie93: Roy Keane is becoming more and more like a petulant child. If everyone is for it. He’s against it. Offers little as a pundit these days apart from the odd argument.

@Cameron_Avfc: If the officials have been asked to spot this, let’s at least see some consistency cos everyone’s had a pen for this except England ffs

@ShaunyRye: Roy is that child desperately trying to get a reaction from his dad.

@AVFC_Jimbob: Feel bad for Souness destroying Roy there because I can’t stand the bloke 🤣

@Ryanlanky90: Forget these stupid Micky mouse YouTuber fights, get these two in a ring your make millions 🤣👌🏻

@dazzieb78: Souness is the biggest, bitter, condescending prick on TV 👊🏻

@the_pieface: Not even 11am on a Tuesday morning and Souness and Keane are already scrapping 😂

@_jakemitchell: Only person that’s ever willing to say anything against souness

@J0NEZY86: Get these two in a ring 12 rounds I but that for a dollar

@KopiteAndrew: Souness would absolutely fuck Roy Keane up, he’s nearly 70 but the man is built like a brick house and roy Keane is just all talk

@liamacall: Keane would lay Souness out. Easy scrap

@Grievsie: Not very often I disagree with Roy but that was a definite blatant penalty. Only going to stop shirt pulling etc by giving pens or the game turns into rugby. You grapple anywhere else on pitch then it’s a foul. If anyone is deemed to have dived then they get booked. Simple.

@MUFC_redarmy99: Roy Keane speaking for the nation and going in on Graeme Souness. Heroic.

@atko1957: Keane doesn’t think its a penalty because its exactly how he played
