Everton’s James Rodriguez is struggling with an embarrassing injury

Everton’s James Rodriguez is struggling with an embarrassing injury which he suffered during the Merseyside Derby a few weeks back.

The Colombian midfielder is battling to get fit in time to face Newcastle Untied this weekend – after reportedly suffering a problem with his testicle.

He has so far stunned for the Toffees since signing this summer, helping guide Carlo Ancelotti’s side to the top of the Premier League table.

He’s found the net three times and also assisted three more, however it was on the 17th of October when he picked up a mystery injury in the 2-2 draw against Liverpool.

It was put down to a clash with Virgil van Dijk, and the South American missed training the following week.

Ancelotti also left it late when naming Rodriguez to face Southampton last Sunday.

However the 29-year-old has struggled to keep to his impressive start, with Everton losing their unbeaten run when they were defeated 2-0 at St Mary’s Stadium.

According to reports from Marca, the Colombian international has been suffering with inflammation since the ball struck him between the legs in the game with the Reds.

James took to social media to tweet a photo of him holding his groin at home using a NormaTec recovery machine with his leg up on a sofa and in a device.

Ancelotti now hopes the former Porto, Monaco and Bayern Munich footballer will be fit for Everton’s trip to Newcastle on Sunday.

Ancelotti gave an update on Rodriguez‘s condition after the defeat, saying: “I think we have to check in the next few days.

“He was tired at the end, he felt his muscle a little bit. But I don’t think it’s a big problem.

“It’s true that the game was difficult for everyone.”

More bizarrely, a porn star in Kendra Lust has sent the testicle-injury victim an uplifting message of support.

She replied to talkSPORT’s tweet: “Ouch. Hope you’re OK.”

Ahead of the game with the Magpies, Sky Sports statistician Matt Cheetham said on this week’s Pitch to Post Preview Podcast: “I’m pitching faith in James Rodriguez. If he’s fit, I believe he will create a lot of chances for Everton in this game against Newcastle. I’m saying he creates five or more chances per Opta’s definition. Maybe even six!

“For context Kevin De Bruyne led the Premier League averaging 4.4 per 90 minutes. No other Premier League player averaged much more than three. Recording five or six is a big thing.

“Obviously there are plenty of occasions when a player will do that but no Everton player has recorded six chances or more in a game for over two years. So I think it would be quite a feat if he did.

“Given Newcastle’s stats, I feel this is a game – whether Everton are successful or not – they could have a lot of shots in and I believe James will be the architect behind that.”
