Eventful FA Cup Second Round sees more upsets plus Third Round draw ball numbers revealed

An eventful FA Cup Second Round sees more upsets plus the results gives up a better idea of the Third Round draw with ball numbers revealed.

Chesterfield was the talk of the round so far after the National League side defeated AFC Wimbledon by 2-0 to reach FA Cup Third Round for a second year.

Goals of Armando Dobra at Plough Lane and Jeff King at Plough Lane in each half stunned their League Two hosts.

Dobra’s cool finish gave the visitors an unexpected advantage just before half time. King ensured Chesterfield’s win by allowing him to pass after his cross was luckily looped into the top corner with fourteen minutes remaining.

National League rivals Wrexham booked their place in the Third Round, with star striker Paul Mullin scoring a second-half goal in a 4-1 victory over National League South club Farnborough.

After a goalless first 45 minutes, the second saw a goal fest. Oliver Pendlebury’s brilliant free kick cancelled Mullin’s opening goal.

The replay seemed possible, but Elliot Lee hit home from 20 yards with 12 minute to go. Mullin won the game with two late strikes.

Forest Green Rovers survived an attack at home by Alvechurch.

After they was given the lead by Connor Wickham, Jediah Yeboah Abbey levelled for the non league minnows.

Ian Burchnall’s team immediately hit back thanks to former Alvechurchp player Josh March. They were able to hold on for a 2-1 win, with Dom Bernard being given marching orders 18 minutes later for a second offence.

In Saturday’s late kickoff, National League club Dagenham & Redbridge was moments away from a historic win at home to Gillingham.

Josh Walker scored 10 minutes late to make the hosts lead, but Scott Kashket came up in the 92nd to win the tie.

League Two Grimsby beat higher-league Cambridge United by a 2-1 away victory. Otis Khan scored a brace, which included a 90th minute breakaway win.

There was also drama in south London. Myles Hippolyte rose to the top in the 7th minute of injury time, clinching a 2-2 for Stockport County and Charlton Athletic.

Shrewsbury Town defeated Peterborough United in an all-League One match. The 3-1 victory sent the Shrews into Round Three for the sixth consecutive season.

Portsmouth won a 3-2 win over MK Dons while Oxford United easily beat Exeter City 4-1.

Non league King’s Lynn Town’s bid to reach the Third Round for the first time in the club’s history was swiftly ended after five second-half minutes in a 3-0 home loss to Stevenage.

Sheffield Wednesday also survived against League Two Mansfield. Substitute Michael Smith scored two quickfire goals to make George Lapslie’s first-half effort irrelevant.

Walsall are now in the Third Round, by the skin they teeth. After substitutes Andy Williams (88 minutes) and Douglas James-Taylor hit twice to beat Carlisle United 2 -1.

Elsewhere, League One rivals Accrington Stan and Barnsley weren’t afraid to make a mistake at home against League Two Crewe Alexandra and League Two Barnet, respectively.

After Joe Mattock’s red cards, the visitors were beaten 3-1 at home by Hartlepool United

Bristol Rovers suffered a disappointing FA Cup exit against National League side Boreham Wood – with first half goals from Will Evans and David Stephens.

@JSmithh92: Whilst we knock out opposition in the league above us again, Wrexham still lap up all the praise for beating part time post men and car salesmen. #GTFC

@DavidRook91: Not many things better than seeing your team bag a 90th minute winner away from home. More prize money for the club and hopefully a good draw in the next round #GTFC
