Elliot Anderson posts tribute to his mum; Morgan Gibbs-White fights back tears in interview

Elliot Anderson posts a touching tribute to his mum and Morgan Gibbs-White fights back tears in his post match interview.

Thursday night’s victory against Porto was more than just a win. Forest booked a place in the Europa League semi final, winning 2-1 on aggregate.

Before the game, a club statement was issued, confirming Elliot Anderson was unavailable following the passing of his beloved mother, Helen.

They added: “Everyone at Nottingham Forest Football Club extends its deepest condolences to Elliot and his family following this extremely sad news.

“Our thoughts and heartfelt sympathies are with the Anderson family at this difficult time.”

As seen above, Nottingham Forest players paid tribute to Elliot Anderson.

Elliot Anderson took to Instagram the day after Forest’s win, writing: “Mum, You are the most special person I could of ever met.

“Laughing, smiling and dancing through every day giving us all such joy and happiness.

“You fought so hard for the past year with huge strength and resilience.

“The determination you shown made me so unbelievably proud ❤️ I am forever grateful for everything you done for our family.

“You gave your sons the most amazing life and we were ready to pay it all back.

“All we wanted to do was make you proud.

“I know you are looking down on us and watching everything we do. We are all together. You are my biggest motivation.

“Rest in peace mum. Love you so much ❤️”

Nottingham Forest captain Morgan Gibbs-White, speaking to TNT Sports: “We got fortunate them going down to 10 men, we knew it would be difficult. Incredible win and we go onto the semi-final. An incredible night.

“One of the best nights I’ve had at the City Ground, thanks to the fans and everyone that’s made it happen. We said early on that we’d take this competition full on and we deservedly got the win today. Now we rest and go into the league.”

On fans singing about Istanbul final: “They were chanting that four games ago! Their expectations are high and so are ours. Villa in the next round, we take it as it comes but we have a Premier League game to focus on first.”

On Elliot Anderson: “Really emotional night. It’s a big shame, he’s an incredible kid and no one deserves this but we’re all with him.”

Nottingham Forest boss Vitor Pereira, speaking to TNT Sports: “I have a fantastic team, it’s not about the manager. They have the spirit, character and quality. They deserve it. The club and the supporters they deserve it.

“We need to suffer together and we need to feel proud at the end of a game. Feel proud about the supporters and about the result on the pitch.”

On injuries: “Only Callum [Hudson-Odoi] was a muscular injury. We don’t know. The other two I think they will recover.”

On next game against Burnley in Premier League: “It starts now in the dressing room. After this game we start to speak about the next game. We don’t have time to celebrate. Time to recover, come back again, mentally strong. I prefer to come with a win – the motivation is different. It will be a tough game, we need our supporters again. We need to go again as a family.”

On Morgan Gibbs-White: “Fantastic player but we had chances in the first half to decide the game. When you don’t score after it’s difficult.

On facing Aston Villa in next round: “Just Burnley in my head at the moment! It’s too much to think Villa too. I will think about it after Burnley.”

On Elliot and his family: “Very sad situation. Everyone plays with Elliot in their heart.

“The players think about him. My condolences to the family. We are here to help him and we will see if he can play the next game.

“I said to my players in the dressing room, it is an honour for me to be the manager of this group because they have character and quality. Sometimes you have quality but you don’t have the team spirit.

“We are fighting for each other. When one of us is suffering, we are there to take care of them. That is why I feel proud of them.”

Fans paid respect as Elliot Anderson posts tribute to his mum and Morgan Gibbs-White fights back tears in his post-match interview…

@nffc_crich: Ah that Elliot Anderson post on IG has broke me, losing a parent regardless of your age is the worst feeling of all , stay strong Ando ❤️ all the forest family is behind you x

@Battlemuch4WW: Morgan has been the heartbeat of the club now for 4 seasons. No one wants to win games more. Sometimes he drags us through matches almost single handed. That spirit rubs off on other players & fans can see what he brings. Rightly earning #NFFC legend status at the city ground.

@nffckez: Gibbs White may have taken over as my favourite Forest player of all time. Incredible footballer, incredible bloke, we are lucky #nffc
