The EFL reveal the new name of the EFL Trophy with Vertu Motors no longer title sponsors, the league has confirmed.

Just as many. clubs get set for the first round of fixtures, the competition reveals a rebrand of the EFL Trophy, with Jersey Mike’s taking over.

EFL STATEMENT:

American sub brand Jersey Mike’s has officially arrived in English football as the brand-new title sponsor of the EFL Trophy.

The blockbuster partnership will run until the end of the 2030/31 season and comes just as Jersey Mike’s prepares to make its debut in the UK, with a flagship first restaurant on Argyll Street off Oxford Circus in London later this year.

The recognised sub brand is a household name in the United States and Canada, operating over 3,300 stores, and now it’s time for the Brits to get a taste.

Founded on the Jersey Shore 1956, Jersey Mike’s Subs began as a single neighbourhood shop in Point Pleasant, where founder Peter Cancro bought the original store front aged 17 before embarking on a nationwide expansion.

It remains at the heart of local communities and will now create opportunities to build connections here in the UK, with football fans at both grassroots and a professional level.

Jersey Mike’s prides itself on a longstanding commitment to giving back to communities, making the EFL Trophy a fitting competition to sponsor.

The Trophy continues to provide a platform to emerging talent, with 123 EFL Academy players making their professional debut in the competition over the course of 2025/26.

It’s role in developing the next generation of international superstars is also significant. Twelve members of the England squad that reached the Semi-Final of the FIFA 2026 World Cup, held on American soil, made their professional debut in the Trophy, including stars such as Declan Rice, Bukayo Saka and Reece James.

Nigel Travis, the chairman of Leyton Orient said in a video: “Hey guys, this is a very unusual announcement.

“I’m chairman, as you all know, of Leyton Orient Football Club, but I’m also chairman of Jersey Mike’s, which in my view is the best submarine sandwich in the world.

“And guess what? Today is the big announcement about Jersey Mike’s, who are going to launch here in the UK in a couple of months.

“They’re going to be sponsoring the trophy, the EFL trophy.

“So it will now be called the Jersey Mike’s trophy. And when it comes, I want you all, Leyton Orient fans to go out and try Jersey Mike’s. Up the O’s.”
