Eddie Howe to Celtic OFF with the club in ‘advanced talks’ with another candidate

Eddie Howe to Celtic is now OFF with the club in ‘advanced talks’ with another candidate according to reports emerging on Friday.

The Scottish Premiership club wanted to land Eddie Howe as their new manager, yet it has now collapsed, and they have now entered advanced talks with someone else.

Celtic hoped to unveil their number one target to replace Neil Lennon early next week. Now that looks unlikely.

The Green Brigade were absolutely loving the fact that Bournemouth lost to Brentford in the Championship playoff semi final, however, talks to bring his former Cherries Technical Director Richard Hughes and first team coaches Stephen Purches and Simon Weatherstone to Glasgow collapsed when Howe was unable to assemble the team he wanted.

The 43-year-old held early talks with Celtic’s major shareholder Dermot Desmond in London two months ago. A real indiication how long this has been dragging out for.

In a statement launching season ticket renewals on Wednesday, Celtic told an increasingly frustrated fanbase their plans ‘to finalise the appointment of the next manager shortly.’ And they believed they had their man until 24 hours later when reports shut that down.

Asked to wait until Bournemouth’s battle for promotion was finalised one way or the other, the club agreed to the delay.

Club insiders claim Howe-ever that the boss was given a blank slate to appoint a Director of Football and assemble his own backroom team before breaking the news that he wouldn’t be heading to Scotland.

With players set to come back for pre-season training on June the 17th, pressure to get a new manager in place and rebuild a squad in transition is now looking bleaker than it ever has before.

Celtic have now moved on to their next choice and hope to make a swift appointment.

The club also spoke to Manchester City under-23 coach Enzo Maresca before the Italian penned a deal with newly relegated Parma on Thursday.

Talks also took place with Roy Keane, with ex-Borussia Dortmund coach Lucien Favre and former Parkhead captain Paul Lambert other possibilities.

According to Sky Bet, Ange Postecoglou is the new favourite to takeover, with odds at 1/1.

Fans reacted after seeing Eddie Howe to Celtic OFF with the club in ‘advanced talks’ with another candidate…

@biggbo100: Absolute embarrassment

@stevercfc: what a shambles!!!!

@edmonds_mark: Blimey if he wasn’t impressed with Celtic’s recruitment plans, wait till he gets interviewed by Palace….

@BenTheTim: Celtic 100% knew the Howe deal was off when they put the ST tickets up for sale.

@fsmarky: the gift that keeps on giving

@tmcglad36: here’s a idea just give him the back room staff he wants

@Sammyboy4444: Howe did they break down??

@Buntingfootball: Eddie Howe was out of work for a year, Celtic should have had that deal concluded long ago. This sums up that shambles and state that the football club are in. Chased the former Bournemouth manager for quite sometime and still fail to get that job done. Totally amateurish stuff.

@brianoneill_: Seriously we are a fuckin joke of a club keep fans for 3 months saying Eddie Howe,send out season tickets renewals, next day Howe is not coming, because we wouldn’t give him his back room staff, fuck you you, Celtic Tory cunts

@Johnybhoy: If the Celtic board told me the sky was blue I wouldn’t believe them. A shower of lying bastards who sent renewals out for season books in bad faith, knowing the Howe deal was off. I bet it was never on and they leaked stories about him to their press poodles. Peak Celtic.

@Tom_C1234: Imagine waiting nearly 4 months for a Eddie Howe, for him to turn around at the last minute and say actually na your shit I’m not coming! 🤣🤣🤣

@Oldfirmfacts1: Eddie Howe left Celtic on read for three months then typed ‘Sorry forgot to reply lol cant im busy thx tho’

@busboy67: Palace turn all the lights off at Selhurst just in case he drives by and thinks of popping in

@ParkheadWolfe: There was me thinking that Howe was working behind the scenes on new players etc turns out Celtic have been sitting doing fuck all, preparing for the new season by crossing their fingers and hoping for the best. Shambles.

@Carson9TV: That’s absolutely shambolic from Celtic. Massive breakdown in talks with Eddie Howe after THREE months of a massive link for him to take the managers job. Embarrassing. Champions League qualifiers around the corner and we are now starting fresh on a manager hunt!

@ChoasTheory15: Absolute car crash. Time for the board to exit. Shambles!

@JimCunningham4: Every cloud has ….. get Nuno in

@FollowerCeltic: With the Howe deal off, you have to wonder if he could’ve handled the job. The fact he wasn’t confident enough in himself without some of his backroom staff asks the question.Who will be chosen now? Surely it must be sorted over the weekend and an imminent announcement made.

@paulswee25: Wanted a big club

@Stormtrooper73: There comes a point where if we want the guy we give him what he wants, within reason, otherwise we have to walk away. Enough time has been wasted.
