Ebbsfleet United issue a statement after having their suspension from the National League South extended amid financial problems.

Three weeks ago, Ebbsfleet were first told of their suspension by the National League, with their first three games postponed due to ongoing uncertainties surrounding their finances.

This regarding their ability to meet their financial obligations, and following the league’s decision, they couldn’t play their fixtures against Slough, Folkestone and Chelmsford.

On the 19th of August, the National League extended Ebbsfleet United’s suspension for a further week, with the game against AFC Totton postponed.

And now, the National League says the “position remained significantly as previously” and added that “PAYE arrears to HMRC remain unpaid” and had made the club of the “potential for expulsion.”

The club’s games against Farnborough on Saturday the 29th of August, and Horsham on Monday the 31st of August have been postponed.

LEAGUE STATEMENT:

The National League’s Compliance and Licensing Committee convened this morning to further consider Ebbsfleet United FC’s compliance with National League rules and regulations, and particularly the Club’s ongoing suspension. The position remained significantly as previously.

The Committee considered the response provided by the Club and noted that its outstanding PAYE arrears to HMRC remain unpaid and that the winding-up order remains in place.

The Committee also considered information relating to the recent change in ownership of the Club and its current financial position, including whether, under its new ownership, the Club has the financial capacity to meet its obligations for the 2026/27 season, as required under National League rules and regulations.

Following careful consideration of all the information available to it, the Committee has decided, in accordance with the applicable regulations, that the suspension of Ebbsfleet United FC will continue.

The Club are required to provide any further information by 5pm on Tuesday 1 September 2026.

The Committee will then undertake a further review of the Club’s position.

The Committee notes the continuing failures of the Club, and that this will be the third consecutive week of suspension. The Club has been given time and opportunity to demonstrate compliance with the League’s rules and regulations, but matters cannot continue as has been the case. The range of actions under rules and regulations include the potential for expulsion from the National League. The Club is aware that such action is an option, and that it is entirely matter for the Club to satisfy the Committee under the rules and regulations, and to remove such as an outcome.

As a result of the continuation of the suspension, Ebbsfleet United FC will be unable to fulfil its away fixture against Farnborough FC on Saturday 29 August, or its home fixture against Horsham FC on Monday 31 August.

The Club remains subject to an Embargo.

CLUB STATEMENT:

The club acknowledges the National League’s decision this afternoon to extend our suspension from the competition until a further review on Tuesday, 1st September, at 7pm.

We can confirm that payment has now been made to HMRC for the full value required on the winding-up petition. Furthermore, the National League have now been sent proof of that transaction.

The transfer of those funds, that was originally initiated on completion of the change of ownership, arrived at the club late this afternoon, regrettably after the required deadline of yesterday and the League committee meeting this morning at 10am.

Prior to yesterday’s 5pm deadline, we also completed and submitted a reply to the League Committee’s remaining questions. Today, the League – in communicating their decision – have requested some additional detail which we will complete and provide prior to next Tuesday’s deadline.

The past eight days have been particularly busy and complicated in expediting the transfer of ownership given the concurrent issues of the winding-up petition and the initial club suspension – and we continue to work with the League towards a satisfactory conclusion on all outstanding matters.

We appreciate the concern of supporters and the effect that the recent uncertainty has had on you as well as all staff and players. We thank everyone for your support and understanding.
