Dunmow Town appoint ex-Scunthorpe, Barnsley, Wycombe, Preston, Charlton, Brentford player Paul Hayes as their new first team manager.
The club won the Essex & Suffolk Border League Premier Division title last season, and are allocated a place in the Eastern Counties League Division One South, which is the 10th tier of English football (step 6 in non league).
For 2022/23, they picked up 81 points from 32 games played, winning 26, drew 6 and lost 1 wile scoring 117 and conceded 35.
Dunmow tweeted via their Twitter account: “We are delighted to announce Paul Hayes as our new First Team Manager Paul had a fantastic playing career including @SUFCOfficial and has a great coaching pedigree- He was the outstanding candidate and we are excited about his vision and ambition Welcome to the #Royals @hayesy9”
Hayes was quoted as saying: “I’m excited and happy to be the new Dunmow Town FC Manager. After meeting the owner twice and hearing the ambition of the club, the plans and the drive they have behind it, it has made my decision very easy.
“The club and players had a very successful campaign last season, winning the double and I look to add more success to the club and for the fans in the future. I look forward to meeting the players in a couple of weeks and start pre season.”

As a player he was a forward who made more than 500 appearances for 11 clubs in all three divisions of the English Football League most notably for Scunthorpe, Barnsley and Wycombe Wanderers. He also played professionally for Norwich, Huddersfield, Charlton, Preston, Brentford, Crawley, Plymouth and Newport. He played his latter career in non-League football for Hemel Hempstead Town, AFC Sudbury, Romford, Meridian VP, Faversham Town, Chatham Town and Haverhill Rovers.
Hayes has held sporting director roles at non-League clubs Chatham Town and Bowers & Pitsea. He was appointed manager of Dunmow Town in 2023.
After retiring from playing football, Hayes then set up a football agency, Aspiro Lifestyle Management.
