Drunk Tranmere fan banned after showing buttocks and sunbathed on turnstile roof at Carlisle

A drunk Tranmere fan has been banned form stadiums after showing his buttocks and sunbathed on turnstile roof at Carlisle United.

Allan Sutton, 41, was refused entry before the League Two fixture, has been banned from professional football grounds, after he reportedly sparked a four-and-a-half hour stand-off.

Carlisle Magistrates’ Court heard that the game on the 31st of August had been deemed a “low risk” of trouble by police.

Allan Sutton was twice refused entry to Brunton Park, at first, due to a ticket discrepancy, but then he bought another and returned to the turnstile at around 2.45pm.

Carlisle United FC Police (@CumPolCUFC) in September: “In relation to the rooftop incident at Brunton Park on 31st August 2024 involving a @TranmereRovers supporter; Allan Sutton aged 41 has been charged with being drunk and disorderly at a sporting event and with a Section 5 public order offence. Court scheduled for 01/10/2024.

They added the following month: “🚨 Update 🚨 Allan Sutton was today found guilty at Carlisle Magistrates Court of a Section 5 public order offence and has been given a 3 year football banning order along with a fine and costs amounting to £645.”

“He was abusive towards the stewards when being subject to a search. He was refused entry,” said prosecutor Diane Jackson, as transcribed by Wirral Globe.

“He was very drunk at this point. He was described as swaying when walking, with slurred speech and his eyes were glazed.”

The man shouting abuse at two police officers keeping an eye on fans in the away end. “He shouted ‘I’m going to commit murder in your town. Is that what you want? Think it’s funny?’”

Sutton soon left that area, but after the game got underway, he then could be seen getting onto the turnstile roof at the Waterworks End of the stadium.

“He was holding his balance holding on to a metal lighting pole,” said Mrs Jackson. “He was putting himself in a position of danger by standing on something that was thin, a 10 by 12ft long wall, walking around on top of the turnstile.”

Sutton continued his antics, pulling down his trousers, showing off his buttocks, and even stayed on the roof until after the full time whistle.

“He continued to be aggressive and abusive, shouting at members of the public as they walked past, including families and children, and also players with their children,” said Mrs Jackson.

“He switched between being abusive, FaceTiming his friends and sunbathing. At 7.30pm he made a decision to come down from the roof after four-and-a-half hours when he was arrested.”

“The actions of the defendant could have been detrimental to the police operation and fixture due to the actions of others who could copy the behaviour he was demonstrating,” added the prosecutor.

Sutton has previously been in trouble, sent to prison in 2015 after he broke into the wrong house in Prenton, Wirral, while drunk and mistakenly attacking a terrified stranger.

Sutton, of Carr Bridge Road, Wirral, admitted a public order charge following the Carlisle incident and was not legally represented in court.

“I was refused entry. I just wasn’t too happy about it,” he said to magistrates. “I just seen a fence at the back of the stand. I knew I could climb up on it. I didn’t think I would be seen. I just wanted to get a vantage point.

“Before I knew it I was on the stand roof. I went along with it. Once I was up there it was too late. I’m just disappointed in myself.”

Sutton didn’t take issue with the banning order sought by police. When questioned about the impact this would have, the labourer also said: “I’ve watched Tranmere since I was four years old. I’ve never caused trouble at the football before. It’s not something I go and do.”

Magistrates handed Sutton a £400 fine and ordered him to pay a surcharge and prosecution costs while giving him a three-year football banning order, stopping him from being within a mile of Tranmere’s Prenton Park — and all other professional football grounds for four hours before and also after matches. He can’t go to England games either.

Lead magistrate Jill Robinson told Sutton: “Your behaviour wasted a lot of emergency services workers’ time. That time could have been needed in a more pressing situation than watching you behave in that way on a roof.

“That behaviour will not be accepted. You would be thinking the same if your family was in danger; if you needed these emergency workers.”

This is how Twitter users reacted with the drunk Tranmere fan banned from stadiums after showing buttocks and sunbathed on a turnstile roof at Carlisle…

@PaulLighty24910: Bit harsh that really….. he was more entertaining than the football that day 🤣 😂

@spiderwebb2019: Enjoy that sunbathe now 😅😅😅

@dougrmurphy: You finally managed to get him down in the end then?

@LiamGreen___: You get those numbers up CumPol!!!

@Mullen103: It was funny the number of police officers, stewards and rapid response that were just pointing. Next time I need the police I’ll just climb onto my roof topless and expect a swarm of officers to attend. They’ll just stand and point but at least it’ll be an improvement.

@james_cufc2000: There was 4 coppers, a handful of stewards, paramedics and a fire service crew and yet you still struggled to get him down. My neighbours house got burgled and it took 3 and a half hours to attend the scene 🙃 jesus christ. However it was the highlight of the game
