Dramatic celebrations in a packed out away end quickly turn to boos and chants as Oldham fans fume at players come full time.
Hosts FC Halifax Town moved above fellow National League strugglers Oldham and up to 18th place with a 2-1 win at the Shay.
Substitute Rob Harker netted an 85th-minute winner for the Shaymen to leave a sour taste for Oldham after Ben Tollitt had cancelled out Manny Dieseruvwe’s seventh goal in his last nine games.
Following a goalless first half in which clear-cut chances were lucky, Halifax took the lead in the 64th minute when Dieseruvwe got on the end of Luke Summerfield’s free-kick to send a diving header past Magnus Norman.
Oldham got an equaliser 13 minutes from time thanks to good work by debutant Timmy Abraham. He did well to keep possession before putting in leading scorer Tollitt with a clever back-heel that he sent past Sam Johnson.
Halifax fought on, snatching all three points five minutes from time with Harker getting on the end of a right-wing cross from Tylor Golden and beat Norman with a side-footed shot which bounced off the ground before flying into the roof of the net.
These were the scenes in the stands when Oldham got that equaliser…

But then that final whistle blew and it was a more unpleasant noise from the away end as the Oldham players applauded the turnout and support…

This is what social media users said as dramatic celebrations in away end quickly turn to boos and chants as Oldham fans fume at players…
@PaulEdinTurner: Seen some utterly dross in the last 30 years but tonight and Tuesday has to be the worst. Get rid of the lot of them #oafc
@henjc99: Was also nice of Darren Royle to take the time to come and speak to us at the end. He said it’s going to take time and we will get there #oafc
@AaronDiskin1: Only player that cared enough today was Abraham and he’s been here less than 24 HOURS so that tells you everything you need to know right now doesn’t it? I fear we are in serious trouble #oafc
@razza_699: As fans you want to see progress on the pitch and we instead are going backwards. I can’t think of anything positive from that performance we are barely creating chances and having a go at team and we can’t even defend. Worrying times #oafc
@Supermillsie: The only thing I can be critical of Unsworth of is the signing of Rooney. Attitude and workrate is abysmal. He’s inherited absolute shite. I’m just glad Royle and Frank where there. They won’t like that performance on the tv. Maybe now they actually invest in a few #oafc
@AndyCiderMan: This club is cursed and I believe we will go down. #oafc
@LeighHow:
Positives: Abraham, Tollitt, the effort was better, supporters were immense superb from all that travelled loud and proud throughout đź‘Ź
Negatives: basic passing, panic on the ball, no leader or creative midfield, lack of composure, players losing their heads to easily #Oafc
@BradleyKnowles1: Patience is going to see this club sink into the national league north #oafc
@lukeoafc_: Maynard Sheron and Norman are absolutely shite, get rid of the fuckers #oafc
@Prestonoldham51: Love this club. Always will no matter what. Season ticket holder for many years. Supported them 40 years. But this one is the straw that breaks the camels back. I’ll be back in attendance when we have some players proud to play for #oafc. Not a day before.
@Greeny_2608: How can players who train 5 days a week be this bad at football I just can’t get my head around it #oafc
@MarkH0893: Im all for giving the man time but no progress has been made and he’s persisted with the same formation and tactics wich are non exsistant despite the dross he’s no plan b, and no clue about National league get rid and get someone in who’s got promoted out of this league #oafc
@MattMolloy85: We are really really bad…from GK to strikers its dreadful. Individual players… teamwork its all horrendous, there isnt a single positive. Club is rebuilding fair enough…but its those 90 mins that everyone remembers. #oafc
@StevieDunk: The goal aside, that was bloody awful. Defence is shockingly bad. Too many players who can’t play a simple pass – some of them don’t even look to see if there’s a teammate to pass to! #oafc
@CammyOA95: Abraham. And the fans are the only people that deserve any credit from today. Embarrassing once again. None of them care and since thats the case they can all fuck off. Worst defence that’s ever played for latics. #oafc
@oafc_prozac: 2 years without a midfield, no one can pass no one wins ball back, every week teams play through or around us, need an animal in there, a leader who would break his own grannies legs. You’ve got to earn right to play only then you win games. We have no one of that ilk #OAFC
@niklitwinenko: Bad players. But the real problem is they aren’t backing themselves. They’re expecting to concede. They’re expecting to get beat. They just don’t see themselves winning. And that stops with Unsworth #oafc
@henjc99: Think the players got a right bollocking from Unsworth met them all coming out looked pretty down got an apology from Jordan Clarke #oafc
@cleggylad: Not a fan of 5 at the back as it puts more pressure on the midfield and from what i’ve seen thats the weakest area need old style midfield general with players with legs and flair around him. The current midfield just isnt good enough #oafc
@thejwp1997: I’ve been wanting to give him time but Unsworth looks clueless. Get an experienced NL manager in asap. If we persist with DU we will be relegated and that’s a guarantee #oafc
@CLloyd__: So angry, Tuesday and today have been dog shit. #oafc
@Supermillsie: There’s just no way on earth Unsworth wants 90% of these players. Just pray we finish 18th and get rid of the useless fuckers in summer. #oafc
@neilsjoy: FT: 1-2. One moment of quality not enough to save Latics from another defeat. I’ll leave it to other to comment on the performance. Regardless of views on formation, the refusal to change when chasing the game against limited and exhausted opponents is inexcusable. #oafc
@DShamen: Being an OAFC fan since 1994. Lose, lose, lose, lose, lose, lose. We are fucking sick of it. Not acceptable. #oafc
@Aldehulme: The previously fucking terrible Hallam Hope, despite being out from getting twatted about 2 months ago, is STILL our player of the season so far. HALLAM HOPE IS STILL OUR PLAYER OF THE SEASON SO FAR. #OAFC
@Nicholas197623: #oafc We are almost an anti side. Loads of following, getting behind the players. Thousands turning out. Any other club would be buzzing. Ours shrink at the sight of this. Why is this possible. All the other larger clubs doing well. My club is fucked 💙💙
@dan_snook: First game in years. Got exactly what I was expecting. Except there was no toxic atmosphere – quite the opposite – the team was supported fantastically until the final whistle. Then they got slated. Love to hear the post match comments from Rhino. #gutless #oafc
